Question Motor Mounts-who has the best ones?

I replaced both my motor mounts when I bought the car back in 1998. I didn't know any different, so I bought the cheapest ones. They're pretty much shot now so I need to find out who sells the good ones. Paragon and Pelican both sell an aftermarket (don't buy these) and an OEM. Is the OEM the same quality as what I would get at a dealer?
I don't want to do this job again in a few years.

Porsche without a doubt has the best ones. I would not use anything else having heard many early failure horror stories. You might think you are saving $10, but in the long run the aftermarket ones will cost you.

Go directly to a dealer for this item. I also feel this applies to gaskets.

I dont see a problem with buying a Porsche part from Paragon or anybody else...they get it from Porsche and then ship it to you...they're just the middle man...just like the dealer.

The part you get still has a Porsche part number on it...its the same part.

Aftermarket mounts SUCK! The ones that were on my S2 before I bought were put on at 110k miles and by 130k they were SHOT!

I put OEM ones on and now it's really smooth at idle..MUCH better. Don't save a few bucks on MMs because you WILL have to replace aftermarktet ones..you'll be lucky to get a year out of them.

Yes, absolutely. The Porsche mounts are a must. Do not use the German aftermarket mounts, they just suck in my experience. I installed a set of aftermarket under a year ago and they failed. I pulled them out and compaired them prior to installing the new Porsche mounts and noted the driver sider mount was at least and 1/8 inch shorter unloaded and the passenger side was at least 1/4 inch shorted and sheered all the way around

Plus, after I installed the new OE mounts I noticed the engine sat up a lot higher than it did even after I had initially installed the aftermarket crap mounts. I base this on the fact that my intake barely has room under the strut brace now.

Definitely genuine OE parts. That's where my last PCA Coupon went. <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" />

I bought the factory 951 mounts and they seem to be great.

A fellow rennlister sent me a photo of some new mounts that are on the market that have a LIFETIME gurantee. If mine ever go I may give these a try:

<img src="http://boards.rennlist.com/upload/944_Supermount.jpg" alt=" - " />

He got his from German Parts & Restoration (800-321-5432)
(www.gprparts.com). I am not sure of the price, and I have no firsthand knowledge of the company or the mounts. Just thought I'd throw that out there since we are discussing mounts...

Anyone else have any experience with these yet? They look "beefy"...

Porsche had two different kind of mounts available. n/a & turbo. Only turbo mount is available now, they discontinued n/a version. Turbo one is much stronger.

I got aftermarket ones and they do suck indeed. Two years after I changed them, I'm sure they are shot also.

Those lifetime guaranty one look good, but @ 250 each, it's not a bargain.

Yeah, we had a discussion in an earlier thread about the Super mounts or whatever they are called. $250.00 each is pretty pricey and basically a lifetime warranty is pretty much a crap shoot. Whose to say the company (?) will even be around in 5 or 10 years. It took 14 years for my original mounts to fail, I say that's pretty good for $100 a pop.

Paragon DOES sell the factory Porsche mounts. The cost $100 a piece. The after market German mounts are not internally the same...therefore they fail at a MUCH faster rate than the factory Porsche mounts. I have replaced motor mounts 4 times (twice on my car and twice on a buddy's car). The reason we had to do each car a second time is because we both orginally purchased the aftermarket mounts. As the saying goes..."you can pay me now or you can pay me later." Typically when you try to save a few bucks and cut corners it will cost you more money in the long run. At least that is my opinion.

I strongly recommend buying the Porsche original mounts from Paragon.
