Default Yes!!! Just saved over $150 to not go through Tire Rack

I was going to buy my Hankook tires that I have been talking about on another thread for $426 shipped from tire rack.

So I decided to call a local discount tire to see if they would match the price and not only did they match it I am getting them for $320 mounted, balanced and road hazard . This is going to save me over $150 because I was going to have to pay to get them balanced.

I am very happy right now.

So now that I am saving some money I should buy a strut brace with the money.

Congrats, dude!

Isn't the lovely thing about us 944 owners? Every penny saved is an opportunity to spend it on something else that needs work.

I can't believe you got a whole set for what one 18" track tire almost costs...

I called the local tire guys and they were going to charge me $150 each for bf sports not counting mount/balance.

At another store the woman was very rude... She looked in the book and just said they have my size, yet had no idea what tire it was. It was some nitto junk so I asked if she had anything of a higher rating. Then she got smart saying "what like a tire you can go 150mph down the highway on?"

I always get the TireRack price and then visit the local shop. Who wants the hassle of drop shipping tires?

The only place I have had luck for matching tire rack prices is Discount Tires. Find out if there are any in your area.

Check availability if you go through with those. My shop informed me they're backordered at the factory through the Fourth. Tire Rack seems to agree with this.

I just (20 minutes ago) dropped $580 on 4 Yokohama AVS ES100s, mounted, balanced, tax, etc.

Nice savings! I just bought a set of Bridgestone Potenza RE050As at Discount Tire Centers for a tad under Tirerack. Although all the mounting and balancing and warranty and other fees seem to add another $200 to the price. No way to escape that unfortunately... The $100 rebate for PCA members helps a little. The fronts were installed yesterday and backs coming tomorrow. New shoes for my baby at last :-)

Sometimes Tirerack has great deals. I scored a set of 225/50 R16 for my 318is for $260 shipped. It was great you were able to get such a great deal. Keep the info coming so the rest of us broke ***** can take advantage of them, too.

I can't even buy one of the 285/30/18's on the back of my S2 for $320! Very good deal!

I looked around for a very long time to find a nice set of 225/35/18 - 285/30/18 tires and I finally landed on Bridgestone Potenza RE050A's. Tire rack wants close to $1100 without shippinf for them...I found them brand new "in the box" on ebay, all 4 tires, for $640 shipped. Talk about a hell of a deal. Two rears cost more then that alone on tire rack.

I'm sorry, but ebay really was a god send when I bought those!

I would never trust Discount Tire to mount my tires and I especially would never let them touch anything on my car.
I buy most of my tires from Tire Rack and have always gotten them for about 60% less then what any local place charges, this is after paying for mounting and balancing. The shipping isn't an issue for me. Since I bring my rims to the shop myself, it's no big deal to bring the tires also. Who wants to mess with Discount Tire scratching a perfect set of Fuch's(I've had that happen) or have lug nuts come loose(also happened) a week later because some kid with a "certificate" doesn't know what torque specs mean?

I have been having mine drop shipped for years on all kinds of cars. TireRack mostly, but some Discount Tire too.

You just got to mount them yourself or find someone (not the local tire rip-off place run by some high school dropout with 3 doped up balance bubbas in the back) to mount them. When I was in the military I use the local auto crafts shop in base to mount them myself for $5 each (lift and bay charge only).

I found a guy that owns a little hole in the wall mounting shop (first gen, fresh cross the border mexican dude) that will mount and balance (with stickon weights) for $10 a tire.

I go to the local VW dealership. Cost me right under a $100 to have 4 hollows balanced by someone that knows what they're doing.

I'm scared letting walmart people touch the steel 14's on my toyota, let alone my extremely nice 993 hollows. lol

Dealerships are normally your best bet. Wheel shops have the same uneducated, but "experienced" people mounting wheels. I'll skip that...and they charge more if you don't buy the wheels and tires through them!
