AC Clutch - couple Q's, and where to buy?

AC normally blows so cold it hurts my hands. But once or twice, when it's real hot, like today, it cuts out, especially when I get on the throttle. I can feel the load on the engine cut out with it. I had it in the shop over a year ago for something unrelated (can't remember for what right now - something I couldn't handle...), had them take a look quick look and they said AC clutch - which fits this behavior I think. Anyway, I'll do some debugging this weekend, but where do I get the clutch assy. if that's it?
Can I do the that clutch while on the car? Without cracking the system?

I'd like to know too. I'm getting 12v at the connector down by the compressor, but the compressor isn't kicking on. I tried to ohm the coil, but there's a ballast resistor connected to the same wire. I tried 12v directly to the connector on the compressor and the clutch does not engage. Tried doing the same to the parts car and the clutch didn't engage on it either. Is coil failure common to these compressors?
I've been thinking about buying the rebuilt compressor from 944online, but that seems more expensive than it needs to be if its just a bad clutch coil.

If that ebay deal in my link is any good, then you could probably buy the entire compressor for less than the clutch assembly.

Well that's the kicker. There is a bolt broke off inside, then I drilled out the center of the bolt, then broke off a stainless bit inside the fresh hole trying to remove the rest of the bolt. Was a long night trying to make work what was obviously not meant to come out. It's the rear mounting tab that has the "damage".

Bummer. I'd like to find a good used working compressor. 944online sells replacement compressors and clutch solenoids, but are on the pricey side. I may go ahead and remove the compressor from the parts car and try to take a closer look at it. I just find it strange that the compressors on both cars are suffering from the same problem.
I read the thread about the eBay compressor, but I think I'm going to pass on it. With one guy having a compressor from the same guy fail 3 times, I'm just a little apprehensive.

Probably not while its bolted in the car, but I don't see why you couldn't unbolt it from its mounts, tip it nose down and do it on the car that way without disconnecting the hoses. I just don't think there's enough room for the puller with it mounted, but in all honesty, I don't know for sure.

You can replace the clutch with the compressor still hooked up to the hoses. You'll want to unbolt it to give you more room to work. You'll need snap ring pliers and a gear puller to get the clutch off. I was able to replace mine without too much trouble.

You can replace the clutch while the compressor is still in the car. I'll be doing it this weekend!
Here is a writeup for when the clutch is outside of the car from Pelican http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarti...so_rebuild.htm
Also for a 911 http://members.rennlist.com/elsies91...nsoRebuild.htm
As yieldsign2 mentioned, somewhere on this site there is a thread that covers clutch removal while still in the car. If I can find it, I'll put it here.

Cooled down a bit, and AC came back (didn't need it, but had to check). Consistent with clutch, I'm guessing. Two more Q's:
1) Does the solenoid fail? If I have to replace the clutch and the solenoid I'll be in for over $300, so a whole compressor looks better and better.
2) What about the bearing? Anyone know if it comes w/ the clutch? Should replace it I think.
