When driving my car on a cold engine, the clutch does not want to transfer the power to the transmission. I give the car some gas but I have to play with the clutch to get the car to move. The car is not grinding any gears or making any unusual noises. I'm pretty sure that the rubber disk on the clutch is going but want to confirm that it is not a problem with the hydraulics. Is there anyway the slave cylinder would cause this?

Thanks Pete, I was pretty sure that it was the rubber donut but the last thing I wanted was to go through a 20 hour clutch job only to find out that it was something else.

The clutch may be worn out but the problem is not your rubber donut, unless it has been broken for a long time. When you say you have to play with the clutch, exactly what do you do? Typically when the disk breaks, there is a clunking noise as you apply power, and then again as you let off. Does the pedal feel normal while this is happening? Does the clutch work normally when the car is warm?

If you rev the engine and the car does not go. The actual problem is moot. It is a drive train problem and it is all the same repair. you will have to take it apart and see what is wrong. A blown ring and pinion or a bad clutch. Or maybe worn out shift linkage on the transaxle.. (not actually putting it into gear).. There is a bolt that hooks the linkage in at the top of the transaxle that has known to fall out an cause this same problem... HTH.
