I drilled new holes in the plate, to match the existing holes in the bumper. Then I just put a couple of screws right through the plate and into the bumper. No frame, no bracket.

Went to the local precinct, had a cop sign my ticket, went home, and removed the plate. Cake.

Greg... you da man. I must try that. I get stopped by the local Barneys too - a few times actually. I don't think they really give a damn about the plate -just using the opportunity to send a message to everyone that passes by and sees a sports car pulled over.

Be polite, be insured and its usually nothing. bruce

The best option IMO other than installing the plate correctly.

Car dealers went berserk along with people who already bought frames. Now it's one of those unenforced laws. I don't think they even give warnings anymore.
I could use that as an excuse to pull you over if I thought you were acting squirrely. Then just give you a warning, or nothing at all.

I mean they... they could do that.

Why not contact your legislator and have them repeal the front plate law?

No front plates in MI

Part of that was that even though you pay for the plate, the price of the plate was set by law and seldom changed. So the state was losing money on each plate it issued.

Between the auto enthusiast groups and the green-eco groups in your state, and the cost of the plates, you should be able to round up enough signatures to make them think seriously about ditching the front plate.

Especially if you put the internet and all the various boards and forums to work for you

I think KLA Industries, or someone else should make an adapter for their tow eye to mount a simple plate frame. I'd buy it, but I don't know if anyone else would.

We tried that here in VA a few years ago. It was put on the roster to have the law changed and it got shot down. The people wanted it, but our legislators did not. I know several of the car groups sent letters and e-mail to support the change, but we all got the same response that basically said "too bad". I even mentioned that it could save the state money and it was more environmentally friendly by reducing the materials used (aluminum, reflective paint, vinyl stickers, etc) by going to only one.

Depends on the State, I think. Here in "Famous Potatoes" -land, they are your personal property.

I had a conversation with a Boulder County sheriff about the plate. I'd stopped at a coffee shop on the way to work and he (off duty) and a couple of his friends were asking about the car. One of them asked him about the plate and he said "I see a plate, I see green numbers, I don't see a problem." Not that I think that'll hold up in court mind you!

In MD we do "have" front plate requirement but I was thinking of putting a MD Euro style plate up front. You think anyone would notice?
