Post Where are all the nice 968's???

I've been looking everywhere for a REALLY nice, lower mileage, 6 speed, 968 Coupe, but all I seem to find are edgy, higher mileage cars out there for sale.

Where are all the nice 968's???

If anyone here has or knows of such a car for sale, e-mail me with the particulars. Here's what I really want:

968 Coupe
6 speed transmission
Must be in near mint condition (9 out of 10)
Must have lower mileage (definitely less than 50,000 miles)
All services must be current
Will not consider any car with accident history or paintwork
No black or green 968's please - prefer red, white, blue
Prefer car be within 5-6 hours of Nashville

Thanks,

Mike

Mike, there's one in this week's classified paper here in Asheville, NC; from memory, it was 81K miles, black on gray, 6-speed, 17" whls., asking $17,500. I'll post the phone # this evening after I get home (probably around 7pm EST).

Jim, not for sale....

IMHO, that's overpriced. There was a gem of a white one down in Wilmington, only $16,000 with 30K or so miles (I think 34k). Only drawback is that it was a Tip.

Riff, yes...I've checked the 968.net website, but it's not updated all that often. I'll definitely keep checking it out though.

jim968...thanks for the lead on the black car, but I do not want a black car and 81k miles is too many for me to consider not matter how nice it may be.

Matt...e-mail me the contact info on the white 968 if you would. I already own a Boxster S and an NSX with manual transmissions, so I guess I (could) consider a Tip, which would mean my wife would occasaionally be able drive it. If the car is near perfect, I just might consider a Tip, but would still prefer a stick. BTW, have you personally seen this car?

You must be nuts.

How long have you been looking? Many of us searched for over a year before finding the right car.

Autotrader always has a few lo mileage cars for sale. There was an Oak Green coupe, 14K miles, for sale in the PCA classifieds-but it's here in NJ.

Just my $.02:

I think a lot of "nice" 968s are well guarded.
I also don't think 17.5 is terribly overpriced - considering we don't know the year, options or condition. Not to mention that's the asking price. And 16k is for a tip - I don't imagine there is really any demand for them.
Given the low # of 968s out there - especially with &lt; 50k miles - you'll need to expand your search nationwide.

<img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" /> and good luck,
Jim

Like I said in the earlier post, I was going from memory. The car is a '95, miles not given, repeat, miles _not_ given. I dunno where the 81K came from.. old age & confusion, I guess...8)

It's black over gray leather, 6-speed, all service records, 17" whls. Number is 828-698-5587 days, or 828-699-1726. Not sure how close that is to Asheville, but it's in WNC somewhere.

And let's all remember that seventeen-five is the asking price, not the selling price.

Jim, figuring I deserve a cut from the seller on this 'un if any of y'all buy it....

I had an auto broker find one for me. Its well worth the money. I gave him the acceptable specs, colors, years and miles and he found cars for me. He found my baby in North Bend Oregon. Got the price I wanted , all inspections done and shipped it to me. I hadnt laid eyes on it till it was here off the truck. At that point I had owned it 2 weeks already. Like I said, its well worth the money to pay a broker if your looking for a NICE one, and especially with the low numbers of 968s in the first place.

Every frickin' 968 in the 968.net classifieds is way overpriced or have I been smoking too much rope ? I'll take eBay any day.

"How long have I been looking?"

I have basically been looking for 2-3 months so far. I look every day at the 968.net classifieds (which unfortunately are not updated all that often), and also look every day at the Autotrader website, the Rennlist classifieds, and I also subscribe to Hemmings, Autoweek, and Panorama and look every month there as well.

Seems most cars I'm finding are Cabs, and most Coupes that sound nice enough for my particular taste are Tips. I found a very nice red/black 968 Coupe with a Tip here in Nashville (and almost bought it), but instead passed on the info to a good Porsche Club friend of mine, who is in the process of having it PPI'ed as we speak.

Pristine 968 Coupes with low miles and a 6 speed seem to be a hard find indeed.

What is your maximum price? If you are setting unrealistic standards for a car --&gt; low miles, excellent condition, 6spd along with a low price . . . its just not gonna happen.

FWIW - My father bought a '94 968 coupe from a P-car dealer back in July. It is an Iris Blue 6spd with just over 100k miles. The interior and exterior were 9/10. The original window sticker was in the glove box and showed the MSRP was almost 50k, with options like 17inch wheels, full supple leather, Hi-Fi, CD changer, painted spoiler, blah blah blah. The asking price was 17500 or so, and he walked out paying 16500 I believe.

Sure what he paid could be considered pretty high, if you place a high priority on things such as low mileage, but it is a drop dead gorgeous color(only one I've ever seen painted such) and absolutely loaded. He bought it on the spot, drives it everday, and couldn't be happier.

PS: I think I saw some 968's listed in the classifieds section of my local PCA region publication, I'll check it tonight and get back to you

What is my maximum price?

I'll pay whatever it takes (within reason) to buy a pristine, low mileage, well maintained 6 speed 968 Coupe.

To give you an example of the type of car I want, let's use my NSX as an example: It's a red/black '91 that has 22,600 miles on it. The car has no paintwork, no dings, no dents, no scratches, and the car has never been in the rain...ever. I am the 2nd owner and have all the books and records and all the services are up to date. Seriously...the car is almost as nice as my 5200 mile '02 Boxster S I bought new. I put the car on jackstands every 3 months and detail the chassis. That's how **** I am.

My NSX would obviously bring way more $$$ than would a 70-80,000 mile car with some issues if I ever decided to sell it. I was willing to pay up for my car because of what it is and how well it's been taken care of. I'm willing to do the same for a comparable 968, if such a car exists.
