Default Redline

surprised that I was able to find this stuff locally!

I have things in the mail to fix the bearings and overheating stuff; got some MT-90 (thanks for that!) today, only $31 for 3 quarts, not bad at all

they place also has 20w-50 Redline engine oil - and aparently its Synthetic which I didn't know, is it still good though?

and does WatterWetter really work?

I also saw some Royal Purple gear box oil and engine oil at PepBoys; so if I didn't find Redline, I was going to go back and pick this up

also I'm going to be doing bearings right now, but, what can I use to pack bearings? or its a complete package of bearings w/grease? and which bolts should be "thread locked"? probably good idea to put thread locker on the axle bolts, what about the rest?

sorry for having so many theads on the same stuff, just really excited because I finally get to do some work on the 944

Redline oil is good stuff. Has plenty of ZDDP to protect your engine.

Water Wetter works great... though it is not really needed unless you run all water or very low concentration of coolant. Many of us use it in our race cars where coolant is banned.

I think when I was talkign to Jim (Shiners) he was saying that he's been using only water, I didnt know coolant was banned though; so now I know why; I think he also said that its perfectly fine to run water as well

or is it a better idea to use coolant?

how exactly does waterwetter work? use it instead of fans

I hope to have all these bugs worked out before Waterfest and H20 so I can cruise down there for a nice 3-day car-show filled weekend!

Most clubs ban antifreeze as it's real slippery when it's spilled on the track. DE's normally allow it, but club racing often doesn't.

Where are you finding redline products locally?

I use distilled water with Water Wetter, but keep in mind my car isn't run in the winter. If you don't want your block to crack in the winter when it freezes, you had better use antifreeze.

Scott, there are several places here in the Rochester area that carry Redline products: Eksten's in Greece, Emerson Oil on Lyell Ave., and Fountain Motorsports in Ontario on 104.

You guys are making me a "little" homesick...although I grew up in Oregon and now live in the PDX area, I just moved from Ithaca, where I lived for nine years. While I didn't miss the winter, I'm not quite used to the June rain in PDX, and it's 80F and sunny (according to my ex-administrative assistant)!

you are only about 45 minuts away (tested and proven by me driving what now-is-my-mom's-car '98 Mercedes Benz ML320 on a weekend from Roc City)

awesome drive too

there is a track event(I think Auto-X) at RIT this weekend aparently organized by PCA and BMWCCA (or something like that)

if you are going, I could pick some of this fluid up for ya, I think I'll be at that A-X on Sunday

there is something else going on around our area too, but I'll be @ RIT taking shots of M3's and maybe some p-cars

http://www.roclife.org/forums/showthread.php?t=86224

PS: actually its a tad late, if you still want to do this let me know, I think Emerson Oil is open on Saturday

No autox/track events for me this weekend (about the only weekend this year), but I will be at the Seneca Army Depot on the 15th, 28th & 29th with the SCCA.

Nothing I really need right now (although I could use a bit of ATE brake fluid), but would just be great to have a place I could stop at on the way home from work, rather than having to order everything online.

We actually have a place in town that carries Ate brake fluid too...Foreign Auto Parts on St. Paul Street. I agree it is nice not having to pay shipping on stuff like this.

Hmm... well perhaps it's time for me to get out the 'ol phone book and see what various small shops around here do have.

Every NAPA I've been to has always carried a bunch of Redline products like gear oil and motor oil.

Water Wetter reduced my 300TD average running temps by 10 degrees C!

hahah Thanks again Jim! looks like another little project coming up

I'm still kind of skeptical on the oil thing, I dont know what previous owner used, but I added some 10w-30 before and the car is really fine, now I really would like to change it; there are no leaks right now, I hope that by going with 20w-50 synthetic they don't start showing up, or am I worrying too much?

and Foreign Auto Parts is great, my uncle, when I used to spend time at his shop, would always buy stuff through them
