Post one question about nos

ok i know the subject of nos has been discussed many times, and i have decided that i want to get it. I'm thinking a 60 shot of nos will be perfect, and not cause any real damage. i have a 1987 944 na with under 36k miles and numerous ignition fuel and exhaust upgrades. what all would i need to run it safely? i know you can get many accessories for it, what should i get? any first hand experience would be greatly appreciated, like where to install the bottle and whatnot. thanks in advance.
brendan.

If I were you, I would take Sam's advice. That should be an advertisement in Excellence. "Don't let this happen to you."

Cool

Daly944-

I just e-mailed you the complete NOS instruction book-I hope it wasn't too big. I can't remember the correct part number for our application, 05123 maybe.

At any rate, the tech help line is 714.546.0592.

This manual answers all questions that you have asked. I get a deal on NOS kits-let me know if I can help.

I would reccomend an NOS 05115 kit, and get a .036 jet. That kit is usually the cheapest (as it is a VERY common kit) and comes with .058 & .042 jets. Use a .036 for N2O and a .042 for fuel bypass. That will equal about ~50WHP.

I would reccomend ignition and fuel pump upgrades, also make sure your clutch and timing belt are new. The thermal shock of nitrous is harsh on clutches. I was running N2O for about 6 years before I built my first turbo kit (not on the 944, on one of my Probes)

Exhaust is key for N2O use, make sure you have a good flowing exhaust also. I would also reccomend an EGT gauge to keep an eye on things.

N2O will shorten the life of any part on your engine, will increase load tremendously and should not be taken lightly. Anything "odd" or bad will only get worse. Research and learn quite a bit before attempting.

Another note, you cannot use platinum plugs with N2O else you will blow off ground straps. You will also need to gap your plugs smaller with nitrous and keep any eye on your plugs regularly for signs of detonation.

That being said, N2O is damn fun and used properly is a great upgrade for N/A cars. I have not blown or damaged one engine on the bottle and have used up to 100hp jettings. I cannot stress enough education is the ultimate equalizer here, you need to know everything you can if you want to maintain an intact engine.

Accessories I would reccomend are a bottle heater (if in a climate that gets below 60-65 degrees) a blow down tube and a purge valve.

Most people afraid of N2O have never run it, those who have respect it. Nitrous isnt somthing to be "played with". There is some good nitrous discussion in the N2O Tech section on the Probetalk.com forums. It wont be direct 944 related but 90% of the content pertains.

It is NOTHING like the media hype of fast & furious and such, it feels like boost coming on, with no lag. Thats it. It doesnt blow the welds on your manifold, drop your floorboard or make the car explode 5 feet in the air.

daly944: what model flowmaster do you have? how does it sound? I have been thinking about doing exhaust on my car and the flowmaster is one of my top options, if it sounds alright.
