I don't think so. When I did my head, I had to go rent the C-clamp style.

You'll see when you get the cam tower off, the valve springs sit down in a hole, and there isn't much room.

No, the hole is too deep and too narrow for the outer prongs to get under the bottom of the spring.

And the prongs won't reach the inner spring. Very frustrating. Personal, expletive riddled experience

Crap.

I picked one up at the local Autozone this afternoon. Now I gotta find where I can rent something else. Which one works? the big C clamp one I suppose.

I have used the manual and pnumatic c-clamp styles on the the 944 heads, anything else will give you access issues.

I think the big C-clamp is it. I did my valve seals in the car with a spring compressor like you have. I used to tool to compress the outer spring and a large, strong friend to push down on the tool to get the inner spring to compress enough to get the keepers out and then back in. Not recommended. Get the c-clamp if the head will be off.
Good luck!

Are you trying to do valve work with the head on or off the car? 'On' the car the old rope trick in the cylinder and a valve spring compressor that bolts to head in a camtower hole works fine to keep the valve from dropping. Off the car the C-clamp style is much easier. It all depends on what you repair are doing.
