No no, MT-90 and the 75-90 is different stuff. http://www.redlineoil.com <--- will tell you everything you ever wanted to know.

MT-90 is actually not GL5 either. Its GL4, which is what porshce recomended when our cars were made. They have since upgraded to GL5 in the newer cars but the GL4 is fine for our cars.

How long does it take to change your tranny fluid? I have a 86 951.

Thanks, Justin

Unless the previous owner stripped the drain plug.

The statement "GL4 is fine for our cars" may mislead some. Only GL4 should be used. GL5's chemistry to achieve the extreme pressure protection can be corosive to brass or bronze synchronizers or bushings used in synchromesh transmissions.

Then MT90 is a better choice over 75-90 since the only difference in description is GL4 rated vs GL5 rated.

Yes, GL5 is typically used in differentials and not recommended for most manual transmissions. Read the first paragraph on the second page here: http://www.redlineoil.com/whitePaper/13.pdf

There have been countless discussions on this. Don't forget you can also search the turbo forum. People always take sides but the big names that get thrown around are swepco 201, redline mt-90, and amsoil 75w-90. For LSD, I'm sure each brand has a different version with friction modifiers, so watch out for that.
I'm a bit confused...I thought Porsche recommended Mobil 1? I have three bottles of it here, ready to use when I get some new transmission fill/drain plugs, but will use something else if I'm setting myself up for catastrophe.

Thanks,

Nick

Royal Purple --- will fix your problem if not too far gone. You can get it at a NAPA store.
