Red face Gasoline Fumes around the engine ?

I just failed inspection in PA and one of the things the mechanic mentioned is that there are gasoline fumes below the engine probably coming from a hose that is supposed to be plugged into a canister that absorbs them. This hose in just hanging down in the engine compartment. I have to take a look, but this is not a Porsche mechanic, so I do not know how far fetched this comment was. Any Ideas what to look for ??? Is this normal ???

Thanks,

I don't think you should be able to smell fuel in the engine compartment. I'd get it checked out very soon, could be your fuel rail or something, and I've seen WAY to many nice 944's totaled at the salvage yard with burnt hoods due to engine fires. Don't be a statistic. Just my .02 Be safe,

There is a cannister that absorbs gas fumes. On my early model it's under the left fender. If a hose connected to that cannister is loose, you could smell fumes. Best to have someone who knows check it out, because fire is a real possibility.

Fund it. Thanks. Now the question is: How do you know if it is bad ? I did take it out and will be taking it to the dealer for inspection.
