Default should I get a 944?

Ok, yeah stupid question to ask in this forum but...
I've found a 90S2 cab 5spd with 45k on the clock, same owner since late 90
ran over something and snapped the alt off the block, most likely the block is toast
I've located a short block for replacement, figure do the bearings, seals, tb/wp, etc... say $3k total for parts if I do the clutch (I work at a shop so parts are cheaper, have my own shop to do the work)
interior has no cracks/tears, top good, body pretty clean except one spot, silver/black
I'm thinking this could be a nice commuter (better on gas than the 928s, bigger than the z3)... comments?

Am I reading this correctly that because the ear for the alt snapped off you need a new block? There are ways of fixing the broken ear without a drivetrain rebuild. Brazing, welding, homemade bracket, JB Weld, duct tape, bailing wire? There must be some other option.

How they hell was it possible to snap off the alternator? Hit a chunk of concrete? Wouldn't the bumper/splitter take it out first? Maybe only the alternator bracket broke. I see them all the time on ebay for like $9.44. May want to start there.

I've told the owner it may be able to be welded on... she declined as it also is WAY over due on the tb/wp and it's a part of her "past" she'd rather not even deal with anymore
I personally will not "rig" the car with any type of tape, clue or wire.. hence the shortblock rebuild

u can break off the alternator on a 928, but on a 944 the alternator sits above the ac compressor. I wonder what they hit....

but I say yes to a 944. they are great cars. how much do they for it?
