Post Engine lift points?

All,
I'm in the process of rebuilding my 85.5 944na and yes, I'm going from the top. I have a good idea on how to get every thing apart/out but I am not sure where the good pick points on the motor are.I will be pulling the trans with it so I need someone with experance doing it this way for some balance and pick points. All advice will be useful as I am a newbie to P-Cars.

The engine has 2 designated pick-up points They are round rings bolted to the block

Follow Blue arrows in picture.

I used a chain between these two points when doing my engine change on race car. I just lifted at about the center point of the chain.

engine comes out from underneath and is easier when the transmission and torque tube are out.

I have the ring on the cam tower , but do not have the one on the front (by the bleed port?)
Do you have a closer shot of that so I can see where it is bolted to?
Thanks

It's actually a loop that's bolted to the block. After you do this lift, make sure you replace the cork-gasket at the back of the cam-tower. It gets smashed and distorted by the weight of the engine.

You can kind of get an idea of where the front loop is from this photo:

I just removed the engine from mine 2weeks ago and this is one of pics I took durring disassembly. Lift ring your asking about is right here. Have fun If your renting a hoist, the rental outfit probably will have a engine sling and brackets you could use in place of your missing lift point.

Excellent, I do have the ring bolted to the block under the air filter. <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" /> Thanks for all your help.
Has anyone pulled the engine transmission all at once. If so any tips?

Tim
