Default Windshield Wiper Switch?

I'm putting my '83 944 back together today, and just now figured out why my wipers behaved strangely (running intermittently even when switched off). The switch/lever assembly has some broken parts. No biggie, but here's where I'm confused.

The book says this part number is 477 953 902. The part I'm holding in my hand says 477 953 505. Are they the same? Different? How so?

Perhaps the difference in part number also will explain why I couldn't get the high-beam switch to work?

Thanks,

Nick

I think it must be a superceded part #. I saw a last minute auction for a 477 953 902 whixh should be black according to the old parts..got a brown one with that part number! is yours brown or black?

I now need to figure out how to take the black arm off and put it on the other switch without ending up with 2 back switches.

Mine is black; however, I just bought brown ones, because they were available.

The guy at Sunset Porsche said the two numbers were for the same thing.

could you by any chance describe to me what parts were broken and what you had to buy?
my wiper is doing the same thing (have 2 delays and no off) but id like to know if i could temporarly fix it before i could buy a new one, if its not to expensive that is.

i have an auto-x coming up, and faulty wipers could be a problem.
