Royal Purple
Anybody see the Hot Rod Magazine show on nascar I mean Speed Channel, where they did a dyno pull with dino oil then changed all the fluids to Royal Purple and went back to the dyno?
408 Dino
418 purple
10 HP for changing the oil, Yea Right <img src="graemlins/jumper.gif" border="0" alt="[jumper]" />

Never heard of royal purple, but 10HP is only about a 2% increase on that motor. Thats totally believable doing the switch from dino to synthetic.
Redline oil has shown about that when switching from Mobil 1 synthetic:

I buy this hype... literally. I swapped to Redline 10W30 after hearing/reading compelling information about the changes from standard dino - to syntheitc of the same weight - then again to synthetic of a lower weight (similar to the corvette testing above). It's very-roughly the equivalent to knife-edging or lightening the crank. The lower weight, more viscous oil causes less drag on the internals, especially the crankshaft. Redline is particularly well known for not foaming, which can_be a byproduct of lower weight oil. Foaming can lead to engine problems ranging from poor oiling to higher than normal pressure and seal failure. My dyno runs were done with Redline 10W30 inside... but i do not have the *before* numbers to compare. I have not observed any ill effect, but do_not have the resources to complete a comprehensive analysis... anyone else care to try?

I've been trying to find out if Royal Purple is good to run in P-cars for some time. Reason: I can buy it at my local 'American Iron' Hot Rod shop, can't find Redline around here.
Mobil-1 in the meantime...

Red Line can be purchased mail order from Jeg's High Performance. They charge a $6 handling fee but shipping is otherwise free to most areas.
The Red Line website has a list of official distributors but there are a number of places that sell it as well that are not listed. You can call some local shops and may be surprised that they actually have it.
Here's my take on using Red Line from a previous post I placed...
"I switched to Red Line 10-40. With Red Line, I noticed much less noise from the engine internals, slightly lower coolant temperature, and slightly higher oil pressure under most conditions. I am hoping to reduce the oil consumption as well, but I'll have to wait a few hundred more miles to see if that happens too.
The only downside with Red Line has been increased turbo lag. They say 5-30 and 10-30 decrease turbo lag.
I made the switch because Red Line claims that their oil reduces the wear on bearings, and our #2 needs all the help it can get."
