Default What is a 2.7L engine / head worth these days?

Hi guys,

I'm not offering to sell it as I believe it is already sold, just trying to figure out fair terms to sell it to a friend.

I spun a rod bearing in the engine but the block should otherwise be in good shape. It was in a race car and I rebuilt the engine middle of last season. The cylinder walls and pistons were in excellent shape.

The head was done to Linsdey stage 2 specs (port & polish), race valve springs, 5 angle grind, new seats, machine flat etc. It has about 5 race weekends on it since then with no over-revs or other things that would hurt it.

I know the heads were very valuable to turbo guys but I don't know if they still are or not.

What is the head alone worth? What is the entire engine worth factoring in the spun bearing (2.5L crank and rods are the same I believe so I could include a spare crank and rods from one of my 2.5L's and make it a complete engine again). Assume the block and pistons are still excellent.

Thanks for the advice!

I sold three bare 2.7 liter heads last year for $500 a piece. Probably a little on the low side. It used to be you could get $1500 for an assembled head but I don't think anyone has gotten that recently. I haven't had any luck finding anyone interested at $85 in good valves even though they go for $160 new. I have 8 good intake valves and three exhaust. The exhaust ones don't really matter as usually 944 turbo exhaust valves are used.

Thanks for the input. I saw one head for sale for $1100 but that is the only other data point I've seen. I think about $1000 for the head would be fair. I think at this point, I'll probalby open up the engine and see exactly what is there to better define it.
