Default Sport Seats

I purchased a pair of sport seats recently. I went to the upholster today and he quoted me $1700 for the pair. The only thing he said was to make sure the electrical switches worked appropriately prior to getting them reupholstered. How do I do that when the seats are not in the car?

You can use a battery you have laying around with a good 12v source, and any ground to jumper the connections. Just apply power ro the switches and push the buttons, just make sure you dont cross and terminals.

Having old motorcycle (or ATV) batteries in the house is just perfect for such purposes.

Thanks,

I am completely illiterate when it comes to anything electrical… What do you mean by “do not cross any terminals”? I assume to ground it there should be a grounding wire…where do I attach it to?

You would realy need a diagram for the circuit to make this easy. I may be able to scrounge one up when I get home after work.

Don't know if it will save you any money, but Robert Budd owns the 928 Leather Shop and does awesome work. He charges 950 for leather and 600 for vinyl. 550 is what you pay for his install which includes insured shipping back to you. Check out his website:

Another choice is Travis at Rennbay - a rennlist sponsor. He sells upholstery kits. I did the seats in my 68 firebird in a rainy weekend.

1700 is almost more than the car is worth.

$1700 is a bit much. Is it a single or two toned color? mine was two toned for the front and back seats (fronts were also sports) and the total was $2K. A reason for the high price was the Porsche grain leather.

Does Travis still sell these? I can't seem to find them on his site. I put off pulling the trigger last fall and now I"m at a loss.

Cheers, Josh

$1700 is for the two front sport seat...Full leather including installation. I dont know if its more than the car is worth, but at this point the car has sentimental value attached to it so I dont mind spending the money.

Where else around the NYC area could I go to get it done cheaper. I am open to suggestions. I just picked a shop close to where I keep in car in NJ... its been in business since 1938. They have done porsches before.

$1700 isn't that far off if it is Porsche leather. The local shop here is $1300 for recovering a set of Porsche leather sport seats, but this is also Pensacola FL.

A high end shop here in Raleigh quoted me $1000 plus material (leather, vinyl, whatever) to do my early sports, so $1700 doesn't seem too far off the mark.

I'm a cheap bastard, so I'm waiting to hear what happened to the Rennbay kits. I don't suppose anyone has tried the $249 kit on ebay. Sounds cheap, but I'm afraid I'll get what I pay for.
