Talking OT: bought 00' Jetta GLX Today

Yep... I bit the bullet and bought the wife a 2000 Jetta today. It has the VR6 with a 5 speed tranny and loaded with all the options. I almost bought a Passat but thought i better check another dealer. I ended up working to good of a deal on the Jetta to pass it up.

I love VWs. Them VR6s ain't no joke. I'd have gone with the Jetta over the Passat...VW should've taken the A4, tightened it up a bit, squared it off a bit, and sold it as a sportier alternative to the A4 for the young folk. They went...the other way.

I drove a VR6 corrado once, I was very impressed. I was most impressed with the gear change though, it was the best gear change I have ever felt, and that includes a 2001 Audi A4.

I've driven several early VR-6 vws, all of them had tons of torque steer, so much that I thought something was broken (I was test driving the car for a pre-purchase inspection for a shop)

I haven't driven any of the later model VR-6s, I've heard they've reduced this problem significantly and on the 1.8 turbos everything is fine so I'll assume the 2000 model is also acceptable in this aspect.

Aside from that, I really like these cars, I had a 1986 Jetta GLI once ahh the memmories...

I just bought my daughter a '97 Passat and I also thought the torque steer was excessive. But after reviewing the maintenance records, and talking with the service advisor who had been dealing with the PO, I found that they have recommended a 4 wheel alignment. I'll try to remember to post back after that's been done to let you know if it improved.
