Default Pulling engine out the bottom quick question

How high to I need to lift the car to be able to drop the engine and roll it out from underneath?

I have read (somewhere) its around 30 inches, just want to double check.

This is with the intake off....

Sounds about right. Do you have the front valence off? Radiator in or out?

Those two make it a lot easier.

I had mine on jack stands under the unibody rails in front and back. I had the front rails about 19 inches off the ground (18 inch jack stands on 3/4" plywood) and removed the driver strut so I could slide the motor out the wheel-well arch.

blew the trans (not my fault, honestly ) changing the clutch, putting in an S2 trans, plus oil pan gasket, rear main, rod bearings, various seals, tial, hoping a K27/6 will show up on my doorstep sometime this week. (hint...hint..anyone want to send me one?)

the clutch job will be 10x easier with the engine out.

I have until friday to finish.... hoping to have the engine on the stand by tonight.

Here's how high mine was and I pulled it complete with exhaust and turbo. Mine cleared easily and I dropped it onto an auto creeper.

You're fine then Borys... with the radiator out it is easy to slide it out the front.

Couldn't you remove the hood and just use a hoist to take it out the top? Or is dropping it out the bottom the only way to go?

It doesn't seem to be large enough to no be able to take her out the top but I guess looks are deceiving.

I pulled mine out the top, not really fun. I don't have the capability to raise the car that high, so out the top was the only way. Although i suspect that had i pulled the transmission and torque tube out of the way it would have been a lot easier. regardless, its possible.

You say that now but then when you get the car as high as it needs to go, you see how unstable it is. Then you realize why some ppl say to pull it out the top, really if you don't have a lift.

If you have any questions, call me.

I agree with DDP. You have to be very careful and I would never drop it out the bottom if I was working by myself.

Here is mine w/ head off and w/suspension dropped. You will see -- its not too high or unstable. Really pretty easy. I did it myself too.
