Default My headlights drain my tank and overheat my car...PLUS NA sighting

Lol.

So I went on a roadtrip to Riverside today and was blazing along in the fast lane around 80MPH. Whenever I saw someone going a bit slower than me I would flip my headlight switch to the first position (just corners/markers on) and turn on my foglights to tell them to speed up or move over.

I noticed I was getting low on gas right after I passed someone, so I turned off the light switch and the gas needle jumped a bit. At the same time I saw the car was running hot, so I turned on the fans and it helped a little, but when I turned the lightswitch off the needle dropped to center.

I just replaced my headlight switch a few days ago.

I also noticed that when my radio is on with the car off, the radio shuts off completely when I crank the engine. Before I changed the starter it wouldn't do this.

What the hell is going on with my wires?

oh, and I saw a red NA heading south on I-215 about 12:30 near the Ramona Expressway exit..anyone here?

sounds like you might have a loose groundwire somewhere that's causing your gauges to float a bit

IIRC you are supposed to flip your FLux-capacitor off when cranking. Didn't you get that memo??

You don't need to click your headlight switch to flash your fog lights. Pulling the indicator stalk while the headlights are down will flash the fogs (instead of high beams).

And it sounds like you have a bad ground somewhere.

The radio thing is normal, most cars deactivate acessories whil cranking to give maximum amperage to the starter.

I noticed the same thing on my car when I headed out to do my first DE 2 months ago....having just had the starter changed.

It's definately a ground issue as the car performed flawlessly otherwise.....

i would flash like this sometimes or i would just turn the lights on outright and leave them on while i approached someone in front of me.

Here ya go!

By the way, I'm pretty sure my radio turns off while the engine is cranking. As for the other stuff ... I'd worry about a dying alternator.

My alternator is about 2 years old, it was a new unit, I believe Bosch.

Anyway the weird thing about the radio is that it never did that before. The stock starter would crank over without affecting my electronics except the headlights. The reason I replaced it was because its bearings were shot and noisy from age and alot of use.

I'll go check my grounds later while I beat in part of my floorpan because my big new tires are rubbing a bit...lol

Normal for the radio to shut off while cranking starter. if it didn' shut off when cvranking before and you only changed the starter then something else is wrong. Changing the starter switch could have an effect on that though.

Maybe it was broken before, and now it's fixed!

maybe.

i only left the foglights on when i was approaching from a distance, so they would be more likely to see the brown missile barreling down on them. if someone jumped in front of me and was going alot slower than me i would flash at them.
