Post Jetta VR6 - zoom, zoom, zoom

My cousin showed up at my place last nite. He was out trying to put 500 miles on his car. He was driving around and around so he could get past the 500 mile mark so he could rev it over 4000. Why? Because he just got a supercharger installed by Volkswagon.

Does anyone know why he has to drive 500 miles before he could rev over 4000? I'm just curious.

Don't know much about his car - it's a V6, I guess and he has some sway bars in the back and 17 inch rims on her, K/N filter, etc, etc.

Are these cars fast normally - I know with a supercharger it will be, but what is this car like stock?

The cost of the supercharger - $6500. Ouch!!

The VR6 is pritty quick. With a supercharger it would be alot of fun. How did it sound? In my opinion the VR6 a respectable sports car.

It sounds kinda like the 944's - but with more of a whistle. He has a throaty exhaust, so it rumbles a wee bit - but other than that, it's kinda-Ferrari sounding.

I need a supercharger now!! I'm starting my "supercharger" savin'-up jar today!!

$6500 for a supercherger?! Oh my...no offense...but he got taken. Z-engineering sells their Supercharger kit for about $5K. My roommate is getting a turbocharger for his '00 GTI VR6 for about $4500.

when my friend first got his new mustang, he couldn't get past 4000 +- rpm. after puting x miles on the car, the computer reset the red line to the correct limit. one some newer cars, the computer lowers the red line for the first several hundered miles, I guest, as a way to break in the engine. <img src="graemlins/cussing.gif" border="0" alt="[grrrrrrr]" />

Not sure about the 500 mile thing- I thought you were referring to a break-in period, but after what wegie944 said, I'm not sure anymore...

The VR6 Jettas are pretty cool IMO. A friend of mine had 3 VR6 Corrados (93 & 94) and a VR6 Jetta (95) one after the other. The Jetta was incredible, but I believe it was just a strong example from the very beginning. They've changed a lot of little things over the last few years, so I don't know much about them anymore- I think they've lost a lot to the newer 1.8L Turbos which are lighter, more common, and put out more HP & TQ w/simple chip upgrades. Still, I like the VR6's though, and w/some forced induction, it should be pretty NICE! I'm waiting to see what will happen w/the 24V VR6- I've about lost interest in them b/c of all of this BS- I read something recently w/them claiming a hopeful 210HP out of the 24V and am not too impressed, considering the original VR6 put out over 190HP as a 2.9L in Europe back in '92- now, 10yrs later, w/twice the valves and lot's of technology, they can't get 20 more HP? Whatever...

Your cousin's car should be fun though....
