Post Which key head do you like best?

I'm trying to fix or add all the little nice things to my '88 951 and I've run into a fork in the road. The problem is, which key head should I use. I have two both have the same part num 944.538.041.00 the one on the left I bought about 2 years ago and found in my desk the other day. The one on the right is the latest style. I just can't decide. Which one do you guys and gals like best?

The colored one. I have the silver one, I think it should have color. What a dilema to have!

Hmmm - really a tough one...?? Let me think...

OK - if you are the kind of guy who:

- Goes into a drinking establishment and puts the keys on the bar - with the Crest facing up; or

- Goes to a neighborhood party - and you hand over your keys to the host, even though you walked to the party, as the host's house is your next door neighbor; or

- You drive up to the valet - hand him your keys - then ****** them back quickly and mumble "sorry - I thought I brought the Ferrari tonight. You can't park the Porsche"; or

- When the officer pulls you over and he asks for your registration/license - you hand him your key (Crest up - of course)....

Then the painted Crest is your only option.

If you are looking for the epitome of understatement bursting with self-confidence - then the silver inlaid Crest is for you....

In either case - please send me whichever one you choose not to use <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />

Are you interested in selling the one you don't use? I personally like the colored one, but neither of mine actually work any longer and have lost the crest. I would use either.

The other day a girl was playing with my keys (??) and saw my Porsche key fob. She said "oh my boyfriend would love this, he likes Porsches, he wants a Boxster." I said "cool, I like Porsche too." She kept playing with them and then saw THE key -- you know, the one with the "epitome of understatement bursting with self-confidence...silver inlaid Crest" and she said "you HAVE a Porsche??"

I'm thinking - no, I just have the key and fob. But I really like 'em.

I wish that was all I had to worry about with my car.
Put them both on your key ring, use one to start it and the other to unlock the doors.

As I recall, it was a big bright cherry red M3 BMW that caught my eye before the key head...couldn't miss the thing!....boy was I glad when that thing got traded in for the more subdued 951...

On that note, I guess I would have to vote for the non colorized key head.

I allways wondered why there are two versions of the crest on the key...

Absolutely..... In fact, when a new owner takes delivery of their Porsche at a dealership - they are subjected to a battery of psychological and psychosomatic tests. The results are sent immediately to PAG for analysis, where the prospective Porsche owners are categorized into a “Type A” or “Type B” personality. “Type A” gets the painted Crest key, while “Type B” gets the Silver Crested key. Interestingly, new 914 owners never got either – simply a rectangular black key head, which was designed to wear out before their 914 rusted out. Quite an engineering feat…

Oh – all this stuff should be in your owners manual – I could never make this stuff up...

Now wait a second here... I happen to have the colored head and I do my absolute best to HIDE the P-car (we don't drive it anywhere it would be parked for more than an hour). My key-chain is a simple ring (no fob) with the ignition and alarm key and they're either in my pocket or in the ignition of the car... Sooo.. What's that make me? Type AB- ??

Maybe I'm just an exception to the rule - and yes, I bought this head off Egay (didn't know there was just a silver head at the time). I'd certainly get the colored crest again now - even knowing that it 'ranks' me as a braggart~showoff.

John D writes "please send me whichever one you choose not to use"

John D, I was just going thru the stack of papers and I found my unpaid rennlist bill for the year. Maybe we can work out a trade? Love the 914 crack. LOL.

Jason-87924S asks, "Are you interested in selling the one you don't use?"

Jason, I've got a few extra colored crested heads, email me if you want it. stephen@lilray.com

The silver crested key is more traditional, but as you know, times must - and always do - change. All my keys have l.e.d.s now instead the old fashioned incandescent bulbs.
