Hmmm...so the silver crest is more original on the keyhead? Interesting...
And do LED's emitt enough light? How did you make the switch?

The l.e.d.s can (and mine do) produce more light than the originals. They also take less juice from the battery. We will be selling them very soon - with both crests!

On that note, I guess I would have to vote for the non colorized key head.

She speaks! Good to hear BOTH sides of the "story"

Re: LED lights, ironically, earlier today I was at radio shack getting what I needed to do this "mod."

Turns out I had to really rig it, and I'm still not done. I've never spent this much time working on a part of my car that wasn't even broken.

Anyway, if someone mass produces this thing, that'd be a great idea. But on the other hand, making it yourself is so much fun.

FYI, I'm using 5mm blue LED from Radio Shack, and if this works out I want to find a super-hyper-hurt-your-eyes bright LED and slap it in there.

If it doesn't work out I'll be ordering another one from Skip (or whoever) because I "rigged" to the point of no returning to stock. This time I'll get the "I DRIVE A PORSCH-AA SEE!" painted crest key.

I like the silver one best but when I ordered I received the colored one. I didn't mind!
Also, I'd like to replace the bulb with a led, but I just can't fit inside!

if you look @ the LED you'll notice the acutal working element is VERY small...the rest is just plastic there to kinda protect it & disipate the heat. You could trim off some with the tool of your choice to make it fit. I'd try it with a $.3 red one before I tried it on my $2 super bright white one first though

Yea - well - please don't encourage it, dammit... I have my view - and she has hers. Of course - my view is the correct one. Actually - it's the only one...

I know, I meant it as a joke, I can't fit myself (led) inside...

Rich, I've had mine for about a month and it lives in my keychain but hasn't been cut either. When I went to cut it they asked for a copy of the car's registration. As if I were to get a $20 key cut for a stolen car.

When I got my 914 neither the Key (plain black) or the car (rusted) worked. What does that say about my personality?!

Hey Rich-

How do you like carrying that pewter crest keychain? I bought one, but it weighs about a POUND, and makes no sense to carry to me!?

I'm a less is more kind of guy... So I'd go with the silver crest. Which is also what I've got. I'm even looking for a very mint set of non-colored wheel centers to swap for the painted crests the PO bought for my car.

Hugh-
www.perfection-plus.com
had the OEM black-crest center caps for like $20 each, new! Ordered mine a few months ago, but I think they should still be the same price. Check it out.
