Post Early 944 Headlight Switch

Anyone had one go bad? I have a mysterious headlight problem and this seems like the last option. All lights work and the headlights pop up, but no low or high beam. The fuses are fine and the bulbs look great too.

Any ideas on the switch or how I could test?

Yes, they do go bad eventually, or at least that has been my experience.

Depending on what dismantler options you have close by, you may be able to pick up a used switch for $20 for a quick test, or try a mail order dismantler like Ian's Euro Parts:

These switches do last a long time so used ones are usually OK.

what would cause high beams to function but not low beams? would it be the headlight switch or the high/low switch on the column?

Platypus, I had your problem, I had high beams but not lows, on my '84, and eventually I didn't have highs either. I laid up under my steering wheel in the floorboard and looked up just behind the wheel, and I saw some plugs. One of them was just starting to fall out, and made the right contacts for the high beams (I guess these contacts are on the bottom), but not the lows. I pushed the plug all the way in (harder than it sounds, leverage is a problem here), and everything looked great!! Let me know, I think it's a kind of squarish or rectangular plug.
