Dont feel stupid. Every time I take my roof off/on I have to dig out the manual too. Some things just never set in.

manual is so worthless for the sunroof
all i figured out is, if i keep the key in pos2 and dont retract the arms all the way in but leave them still connected to the roof it doesnt move around, i guess thats safe?
pos1 doesnt do anything, button down or up, no sound, nothing, whats it supposed to do?

Operator yep you got it. If you your sunroof is out and you just put it back on, all you have to do is start the car up and push the button to raise the roof, the 2 arms will extend up into the roof to push it up at the same time they will latch in, when you close the sunroof the 2 arms will still be latched.

weird so..
i just press down until i think its locked?
if i keep holding down the arms leave the sunroof completey.. if i hold it and let go right as it (the sunroof) is flush with the roof then its locked? so its like playing a videogame

Operator, I've been trying to "fix" my sunroof for a few weeks.
Tabo II is somewhat an expert and he advises that basically you can't really make the arm retraction stop at the precisely right time by adjusting the microswitches. You have to watch the armas and as they reach the best "holdown positon" you let off the switch. I know this sounds lame, and it is! But it's better than stripping gears and having to replace them over and over - like I have.

Or, you can just put the roof on, don't do anything with the switches, and lock your door. If you have central locking, the car will 'grab' the sunroof automatically! (At least on my '89)
Try it!

Operator: your microswitches are out of adjustment. You'll need to get into the motor box behind the driver's seat, (in the rear quarter panel) and re-adjust them. There's a really good article about sunroof operation and repair in the tech articles section of Pelican Parts website. Download the text, read it one night and let it sink in. Then, when you have a free afternoon, go out to the car and give it a go. There are little stops on the cable that sometimes get pushed out of place, and other little idiosyncracies that you'll discover if you take the time to work with the info.
Also, back off the torque on the clutch to about 5.5 (factory setting is 6 to 6.5) to avoid stripping gears.
Just my 2 centavos. <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />
