I'm considering using my cell phone as my only phone and am curious if there is any strange credit impact.

As in; will creditors (future) consider it bads that I don't have a house phone.

I just can't justify having two expenses for the same service since cell plans are so cheap now.

I do it Cable for home, and cell phone for everything else! But around here we got CellOne USA which has unlimited anytime minutes for 40 bucks a month...but ya gotta add long distance and stuff like that! But I think if ya move around a bit and do lots long distance calling Verizons Americas choice would be best...Verizon has the best coverage out of anyone I've EVER seen! New rate plans and coverage maps comin out tommorow!

Getting prepared to do this myself. The local landline telephone company has a program for people who are traveling for extended periods of time that allows them to "reserve" their current number and avoid reconnect fees. The service is only a few dollars a month and would allow a test drive of the cell-only setup while assuring that you can return to landline service quickly and cheaply. During the time when you have the landline shut off callers to that number get a message that the line is temporarily inactive. THis will be my "training wheels" to see if the cell setup is acceptable.

Over here most of the young people only have cell phones, no reason to pay for an old-school wire phone when you never use it anyway. Older people still have them (along the cell phone) because it's too much trouble to cancel it...

If I'm not entirely mistaken we might actually have more cell phone subscriptions than we have inhabitants. Just don't quote me on that though!

I have been doing it for a while... I was on Sprint PCS service, then tried Verizon and HATED it (as does everyone else I know on Verizon), and am now on Cingular and like it okay. No matter which service you use, you will likely encounter compromises. Still, it works well for me, and saves me money.

I was thinking of doing this but I was concerned with the sound quality of a cell phone.

Ultimately I did the exact opposite... I dumped the cell phone and kept the land line! SBC has just come out with some good deals on long distance. My phone bill for the land line with no frills is about $12 a month.
IMHO the cell phone companies are selling us a bunch of crap we don't need, and besides I don't need or want to be at the end of a phone 24/7.
I suppose it is all a matter of lifestyle though.

sprint pcs was HORRIBLE For me! Verizon was best for me but too expensive...and CellOne is a good balance..cheap...

I did that for 2 years with Cingular (great service here in Atlanta, but aweful customer service - don't have a cell now because they cancled me for being 1 day late with payment). I never missed having a land-line... now I have no cell and only a land-line (which is cheaper in every respect) and occasioanly miss having a cell ~ but those Very few times are delt with in $.35 pay-phone calls.

The only way you'll know if it works for you is to try it.

Creditors won't know that you don't have a landline, they only report bad credit.

3 months ago I couldn't get cable modem, so I was forced to pay $80 for a phone line and DSL. When we finally got cable modem, I dropped both the DSL and the landline and started only using my cell phone. When you give the number out (which I rarely do) no one has to know its a cell phone. The only problems I've really had are keeping it charged and the fact that I only get 500 anytime minutes each month. Not bad since I rarely talk on the phone though. I've got Sprint PCS and I think I pay $45 a month, with unlimited nights and weekends. In the end its a WHOLE lot cheaper because I talk quite a bit in the evenings and make a lot of long distance calls, which are free on the cell phone. I haven't really had a problem with Sprint. From what I've seen, if you're responsible and don't go over your limits and make sure you've got your bill paid, you shouldn't have many problems. People that can't handle the responsibility tend to hate whatever company they happen to be using. The cell phone industry makes it's money off taking advantage of those people.. It's really not a very honest industry IMO (along with banking and BAD CREDIT? NO CREDIT? NO PROBLEM! car dealers).

I have nextel and it works great for me. about $50 a month and I get unlimited incoming, free long distance and unlimited nights and weekends. That only allows for about 400 during the day min. but everyone is always calling me anyway so there free.

Plus they are telling me that in september that the direct connect goes nation wide and not just in your calling area.

I am very close to doing this. We have a good plan for our cell phones and we use cable for the computer. Only thing slowing us down is our cellular coverage is great everywhere, except our house. But on the other hand, I have never gotten a single telemarketer on the cellphone. Might be a good tradeoff....

I love Sprint, but for your purposes you should look into the NEXTEL anytime plan, where you get UNLIMITED EVERYTHING. And I mean EVERYTHING.

I think it's 200 a month though, but if it's a business phone and you can justify it, then it's probably worth it.

I did it about 6 mo. ago. I hadn't used my land line in about 6 mo. and said what am I paying for two lines for. Canceled the DSL and got cable internet so no need for land line. No more $50 a month for something I never used anyway. Everyone called me on my cell anyway. It is now my home phone, and business phone. Only one bill and can always be reached. No brainer for me.
