Default Another oil question!

There is never a clear answer on this topic! I have searched for hours on here and everyone has there own opinion on what motor oil to use! I hear the most common ones that people favor are, in no order:

Mobil 1
Shell Rotell
Amsoil
Castrol
Royal Purple
Valvoline

What about kendall oil? I heard they were very good in the past and have high amounts of zddp and additives to protect the engine!

I have done my own searches and found that most answeres are biased!

Usually the smaller oil companies whos oil is designed for racing or extreme high performance (like Red Line, Brad Penn, Amsoil, and Royal Purple) have more zddp.

There is no "one" perfect oil, as many people have different opinions.
I say go with a good synthetic, 15w-40 or 20w-50 from one of the companies I mentioned above (or something simular), and you will be more than fine.

As pointed out, there is no ONE RIGHT ANSWER. I think choosing a weight that suites your climate and driving style, and frequent oil changes are MORE important then what brand you choose.

hmm maybe it matters if you are racing but for daily driving I don't think it makes a significant difference what brand you use. I juse use the cheapest synthetic which is Quaker state full synthetic 5w50.

my engine has 250,000kms on it and I don't think putting in a really expensive oil like redline (10 bucks a quart) is going to make my engine last significantly longer than using say the quaker state. I get the quaker state on sale from Canadian tire for around 24 bucks for a 4.4 l jug so it's pretty cheap and I use a good oil filter usually KN oil filter.

I use Mobil 1 20w50 and add zddp myself. LR sells a zddp additive.

The old Kendall GT1 racing oil is now sold as Brad Penn racing oil. I use Valvoline VR1 racing oil in my car. Both are good choices.

I use AMSOIL Series 2000 Racing oil 20w50 in my 944 spec car and Valvoline VR1 20w50 in 944 Turbo S street car. My street car has some minor oil leaks that would only get worse on synthetic. My 944 race motor has been rebuild so does not leak oil and given the abuse I put it through needs the extra protection of the very expensive AMSOIL.

Good. That's what I'm using in my engine now.
