Default Cooling fan operation

The cooling fans turn on as normal when the coolant heats up but do not turn off when the coolant has cooled down. The temp gauge indicates that the fans cooled the coolant to beneath normal operating temp, but it is as if they do not know that they should turn off. The fans turn off when I shut off the car, unless the one fan runs on low for a few seconds as normal. This only happens when it is 70 degrees plus outside. The fans run more or less normal when it is cooler.

Would a faulty coolant temperature switch cause this?

Thanks in advance.

sounds like the switch is working properly.

my fans won't turn off, i'll see it on the voltmeter and can hear them, unless i'm going downhill and the temp gage shows well below where the fans come on.
