Red face Edit - Oil leak problem likely resolved..

I think the oil pan gasket just blew in the 924S. I went thru 4 qts of mobil 1 (luckily I carry 5 qts)- pouring out white smoke- i believe by dumping it on the exhaust manifold.. I pulled into the garage and oil was dropping everywhere- I guess thats what I get for looking another one.. Dropped 4 qts of oil in 30 miles.. I'll have to pull the belly pan tomorrow to discover the exact source of the leak- but I think its the oil pan gasket that just blew.. I have never WORN so much oil in my life!@! Man this sucks..

Chris, that just sucks! You know, any car can be temperamental - that's why I bought a 944 to be my every day car; I at least want to feel I get something back for the money and time I put into it.

My boyfriend woke me up this morning before he went to work, and told me when he got home last night, it steamed out from under the hood. When he opened it up, he saw the resevior cap was loose, and put it back on. I checked all the fluids this morning, they all looked fine - but I think all the heater hoses get replaced this weekend, gut instinct tells me this, since all the other hoses were already replaced!

So, pick your cars wisely, as you will be intimate with it, no matter what kind it is! Me? Well at least my car gives me something back, when I work on her...

What really sucks is the 3 days I just spent detailing the engine bay getting ready for tweeks. Its a clean, oil spewing *****..

That'll teach you to clean a road car...

Sorry to hear the misfortune, my '84 is doing a bit of oil spewing as well. Hope you aren't down too long.

Regards,

Chris,

Any luck finding the source of the leak?

The oil pan gasket, if changed on its own, is something like 10 hours of labor with the engine left in the car. A lot of stuff has to come apart.

Have you thought of switching back to non-synthetic oil? I was always afraid of using the synthetic stuff, because of the possibility of leaks. I just change my normal (non synthetic) oil often. Is there any off the shelf "stop-leak" product that might help (in conjunction with the switch back to regular oil).

It's kind of hard to imagine that a leak would get so bad so fast.

Damn man/

That blows. just step up the threshold on the 944 your looking for.

You ant to hear scary. I finish my first timing belt job tomorow. Monday I drive to NY city, then Harrisburgh, West Virginia and back home. 2 hour drive the following Monday then Montreal for a week and a half.

I'm wicked scared.

Good luck man, I told you not to go to synthetic. Or did I.

Did you get that message.

dude that sucks blows and swallows! i really feel for you chris.

i highly suggest you use real dino juce unless you have a super tight leak free, fairly new engine. synthetics will magnify any leak to the 10th degree.

does this mean we wont be having martini's at tweeks?

get her fixed man! take this weekend and do the voodoo that youve gotta do!

Think positively. Its a constant oil change thus eliminating oil changes forever. Also, it will cause anyone trying to follow you (including police cars) to slide from the oil slick thus eliminating speeding tickets forever.
