Well, I'm elbows deep in my engine right now checking up on my newly replaced #2 rod-bearing. Also gotta really seal this oil-pan gasket so I can make it to Bill & Gabe's Excellent Barn Raising this Sat. and onto the new Sears Point on Sunday! So the pics and vids gotta wait 'til next week!

HEY! Let's get the NorCal group together for another meet this weekend! Rebuild Gabe's engine on Sat. and up to Sears Point for fast laps on Sun. I'll take everyone for a spin on the track (one at a time)!

I won't know if I can go to Sear's until friday. John's gotta let me know if my car will be done first. Chances are I'll be completely skunked for this weekend because I've got 10 hours of work saturday and I'll be driving down to get the car sunday.

Cool

Trevor,
It would great to see you this Saturday at Bill's, but work have to work those insane hours. Danno, thanks again for helping out this Saturday. There is going to be a two cager at my friend's house Saturday night and his band will be playing there also. Anyone that would like to go with me after we get done working on my 951 Saturday is more then welcome. This will be a UCSC scene, big time, but it will be good times that is for sure! Danno, dont forget to bring your camcorder, this will be one for the books, trust me. Trev, I want to see you at this, this will be big and I have a few ladys I want you to meet (haha).

Cheers,
Gabe <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />

All DONE!!! Ok, so it took me 12 hours instead of my anticipated 6 hours to pull off the oil-pan and replace the gasket. Anyway I inspected my newly-replaced rod-bearings and they looked OK. Used some heavy-duty super-tacky gasket sealant and that did it! No more silicone stuff, I've thrown them all out! See you guys this weekend! Who wants to go to Sears Point with me on Sunday?

Welll..... I figured I could make a quick job of it with power tools and stuff. But I started at night and the neighbors complain about my air tools (they must've had a bad experience at the dentist). Also the crossover pipe is so awkward, you gotta use box-wrenches by hand anyway.

As for the oil-pan gasket, I wouldn't worry about it too much. The Toyota oil-pan has the 'proper' lip on the outside to prevent the gasket from creeping sideways. But to be on the safe side, use some non-hardening, flexible sealant. I used Yamabond-4 since I had some left over from my motorycle engine rebuild. It's pretty much the same as Hylomar if you don't have a Yamaha dealer around:

<a href="http://www.igscorp.com/hylomar.htm" target="_blank">http://www.igscorp.com/hylomar.htm</a>

Some headgaskets even come pre-coated with Hylomar.
