Default Anyone use KYB shocks?

My 87 is due for a strut and shock replacement, and since this is simply a pleasure driver, has anyone used KYB shocks instead of the BOGE's, they seem to be popular and very reasonable?

Monroe also makes the setup very reasonably.

Thanks for the information.

Not on my 951, but I use them on my VW Fox and have had no problems.

I used them a while back (KYB Gas Adjust) on a Fiero that I have. They were pretty stuff. Not like KONI stiff, but they were definitely stiff. It depends on what you want... if you want a more comfortable, less jarring ride, I say go with stiffer springs and Monroe shocks. If you want to be able to do SCCA on the weekends, but still drive it to work, then the KYBs are good.

I collect P Cars so it won't anything but a few spins a week. This is the car I drive the most of them, but it is in town driving... it is time for bearings, shocks, rotors etc.. so just making it right.

If you're mostly just going to be driving it around... I say go with the Monroe, it's a bit more comfortable, but if you want a pretty stiff ride, then KYBs.

What is that thing in the middle of your avatar picture? It looks to me like the device they use to jack up the front of a Formula-1 car when it heads into the pits!!!

Portable lift, probably should move the hydraulic unit for a better pic, but just loved the S2 front, and the pic... not great photography skills... LOL

I've had them on my 83 and they were decent shocks for the money. The rears softened up after a year over rough Caribbean roads, though.

They are good compared to stock and youc an do all 4 for around 150, which you can't beat! Don't expect more than a few years but at that price you might as well get new ones every couple years.

I actually have a set of used ones that were completely fine after a year or two but I upgraded.. if anyone wants them for 50 bucks.

I put them on my 83 and a friends 86. They were great. They are stiffer than an OE Boge or Sachs but worked great. I like the fact that they are gas-filled rather than fluid like the OE stuff. For the money they are hard to beat but if you want mushy rather than a sport feel stick with the Boge or Sachs at twice the price. Koni's and Bilstein are another story due to the price difference but they are the best.

I bought a pair of KYB Gasajusts spec'd for a Volvo 740 I intend to try on the back of my 968. My theory is that the high-pressure gas design for the Volvo application will add some effective spring rate and make up for some of the loss of torsion bar stiffness over the years. High pressure gas shocks have more of an air spring effect than the low pressure gas shocks that are stock on the 944. My recollection was that when HP gas shocks go dead, the back end of the car (Saab 900 turbo in my case) sagged about 1/2 inch. Will I get a similar effect on the 968? I'll let you know when I try it, as well as other impressions.

The Volvo 740 rear shock is about the right length and one of the two bushings is the right diameter, the other will need to be swapped with the Porsche bushing.

Not as good as Koni's, but also much cheaper. Go with them if you don't want to spend alot, but do want to have an improved ride over 20+ year old orginal dead shocks.

I've used the Gasadjusts in the past and now the GR2s are my go-to for OE-style shocks. I've always been satisfied with them (especially for the price) but don't really consider them to be performance shocks when compared to OEM.

You only need the strut inserts for 86 and earlier NA's that had the threaded cap. The turbo struts are sealed.
