V8 Conversion... Naaaahhhhh!
W8 Conversion is more like it!
As some of you may know, I work selling VWs and Audis near Pittsburgh.
We JUST got in our W8 Sedan and Wagon Passats, and let me tell you guys, that engine is SWEET, and small and light too!
If someone makes a cost effective kit for one of those, my 86 is due for a heart transplant!
I think i'm gonna have to go for another drive...

Thad i think you are refering the the knome rotary which was like a radial but the cylinders rotated around the crank, but yeh that would be a hoot, balancing that thing would be a biotch

Yeah, certainly no kits yet, or "reasonable" engines out there...
But damn that thing is smeeewwwthh!
Give it a couple years, remember, its meant to be mounted longitudally, not like the VR6 discussion of before!

The VR6 was mounted longitudinally in Audi A4s and A6s. I must have missed the discussion.

Though I sell them, I don't know quite everything about VW engine history...
But as I understand it, at least in most applications stateside, the VR6 (narrow 6) was developed and used for front wheel drive applications.
The V6 engine found on the A4s (passats, A6s) is not the narrow angle V as in the VR design. The plane V6 (2.8 or 3.0) is longitudally mounted for AWD uses.
Now the 1.8T goes both ways <img src="graemlins/c.gif" border="0" alt="[ouch]" />
As far as AWD in everything overseas, I sure dunno how they use the VR6 there!
Just my understanding, anyone care to chime in with a little more explination?

Hmmm,
275 HP@6000 RPM and loads of torque, also uses balance shafts like our 4 bangers. Nice stuff, I wonder how much more a W8 car will cost?
