Hey, I didn't start a comparison thread, but it did end up as one.
I'm sure if my 944 was as well taken care of as my miata was when I bought it, I would love it to pieces, but it's not, so I don't.

When I was looking for a "new" car, I really wanted to get an e30 M3, but a decent one was out of my price range.
Someday, I would still really love to have one.
In my opinion the e30 M3 (along with the Turbo/S2 944 and the NSX) is one of the best looking cars ever made.
I am the exact same way...I want to sell my 951 to move to a early NSX

I too have considered the NSX, the supercharger kit looks pretty well sorted out. An E36 M3 cabiro is also an option but that'd need a motor swap or FI as well. My goal would be a car with the 928 muscle but top-down or targa capability so I could cut back to one fun car that meets all my needs.

i have a 86 951 and 91 e30 ix. not quite an m3, but i've been around the boards. personnaly, i think the look of the e30 m3 is hard to beat..... however they say the engine is expensive to maintain and is hard to find parts for. our 951 has 145,000 on it and other than little things, quite problemless. a good m3 is also more than a comprable 951

Not to get off toppic but you have a 91 325iX also? You wouldn't have a spare front driveshaft would you? I just got a call that the splines at the TC sheared again on mine...damn San Francisco hills and manual trans are brutal. $388 for a stinking 24" driveshaft.

Euro E30 M3's are pretty much the same as the US spec. You don't really notice a difference until the e36 M3.

I don't want to get in the way of your Rennlist Policing...My mistake.

That is like comparing apples and oranges.

The M3 E30 is a fun to drive underpowered car that cost a mint to get any engine performance out of it. Unless it has a 2.5L DTM engine in it, it is basically weak. I hate buying timing chain guides for the engine every 20-30k @ $1000 a set, because they wear out too fast. I might be getting a M3 with a blown motor soon. I plan on putting the BMW 1.9L M44 engine in it and turbo it since the S14 engine is too expensive to rebuild. My friend has a ex-DTM 2.5L E30 M3 and he needs to get his engine rebuilt to the tune of $50k!

The 951 is a blast to drive and does the quarter in 14.x seconds. The 2.3L E30 M3 never could do that! nuff said! Porsche really needed to build a 951 with the 16v head.

Well that's certainly not true: Wikipedia.

$388!? A few years ago when mine sheared I got one from the dealer for $180. Maybe they gave me a discount to get it out of their stockroom but that's all I paid for it. When I installed the new one I added some spacers which moved the spline farther in and I didn't have any issues after that, even with many abusive off the line starts.

I have always wanted a turbochargered 325ix-M3. That would definately top my 951.

I am sure everyone has thought this, but why never a 16v 951 turbo?

That price is even with the dealer matching Pelicans lower price of $388. This one sheared even with the 1/4" spacers I used last time. It's really a crappy design when only 50% of the spline area engages the TC. I'm thinking of having a new longer splined end made up rather than spacers. It wasn't a problem of not being greased either, just 50K miles of my sons pizza driving and all those hills are hard on it. I'll fix it again but this is the last time. It's still running strong which is testament to the durability of the E30 powertrain.

+2 Kuhl. no, i do not have a spare shaft...everyone on bimmerforums and r3v seem to be in need of a spare or replacement. i have yet to lengthen my front shafts. i need to do that soon. once the weahter breaks and schools out. good luck finding one. I'd call Chris at CR's. he's about 30 mins from me http://bmwwholesale.net/

The only BMWs I have any real interest in is the 507 Roadster, a 2000 CSI, an old (and loaded) 733i, and any model of the 850.

Otherwise, it's just an overpriced car. To each their own I suppose...

Somebody on rennlist has a 968 turbo that they built. I think the reason is clear:

It's just too awesome. The people weren't ready for it.
