I don't even consider the cayenne a porsche ( but that's a whole other story...)

"nice attitude(s), perhaps your opinions are better than the rest of us? "

You really need to calm down, I didn't mean anything by it.

agreed. porsche has an "exclusive" program for a reason.

perhaps some of us like a little rice with our sausage and kraut.

or maybe we want something to break up the acres of blandness in the stock interior.

That picture is disgusting, why would anyone put wood in a sports car...

And why _add_ a light weight material like carbon fibre when it is not needed?

I don't get it, I always thougt that less is more when it comes to sports cars..

The carbon fibre trim is form, emulating function, but ultimately to the detriment of function. IMO, that is precisely what "Rice" is.

Just a bit of friendly banter, but silverbullet you need to polish up on your models. I suppose you don't consider a 420 bph, all wheel drive '02 996 turbo to be a PORSCHE either, cause that is what the above wood pic is from.

i need to settle down?

why even bother posting a response if it is going to be interpreted as a dig, especially if "you meant nothing by it"?

Notice the tiptronic. That pretty much says it all. Anyone who would order a Porsche with a tiptronic transmission is obviously looking for something different than a "sports car."

If cars where only to be functional and have no form or for that matter esthetic appeal we would all be driving around in gutted out 65 VW Things. I agree that some people go way overboard on the esthetics but, a little form goes a long way towards making me feel lucky to be driving this car. Until I can afford a new machine I want to get the most out of my PORSCHE experience. Now when I start putting on double-decker wings and neon turn signals then you can call me what you will. <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />

steve, i can send you an article where a pro driver lists the advantages of a tiptronic on the track.

maybe not your interpretation of a sports car and maybe not mine, but let's be open minded here.

OH, sorry&gt; <img src="graemlins/icon501.gif" border="0" alt="[icon501]" /> The cayenne looks exactly the same. Well do you think the wood trim belongs in a porsche 996 turbo? I feel, Wood trim should stick to luxury cars. It's like putting wood in a ferrari modena, does it fit? Hey, Just my opinion, remember that.

Funny that you should mention modena, being there are more modena360s sold with f1 paddle shifters than with a 6 speed. Not to mention the fact that the tiptronic and f1 paddle shifter was derived from the track and lemans. <img src="graemlins/xyxwave.gif" border="0" alt="[bigbye]" />

I think it's tacky, no matter what kind of car it is, or how fast it goes (unless it's a Rolls Royce, which is what it looks like more than a Porsche).

Honestly though, it's really about what "look" you aspire to. Personally, I think Porsches are about a racing heritage (which is what drew me to the 944 in the first place) and the acres of black thing is kind of what the car is about. I actually liked the interior in the pre 85.5s better than than the newer interior since I think it looks "racier" (not to be confused with "ricier"!)

It's a free country, so we can all muck up our cars in any way we see fit, obviously, without fear of the Porsche Taliban coming to our house.

That said, Silver, maybe it's Rice-A-Roni we're smelling? Pilaf? Risotto?

colorado bill-

Agreed if I had a $150k to blow on a turbo I would not do the wood thing. I too think that the new all wood package is overkill and not my taste. I do like the wood in my car though.
Cheers to all!!

Ahem, the Ferrari F1 gearbox is a sequential gearbox while the tiptronic is an automatic gearbox where the gears can be chosen.

Now, that's a big difference. And saying that the 996TT is better on a track with a tip doesn't really matter to me since it really isn't a track car, if it was then where are all of the race prepped Porsches with tiptronic gearboxes?

Please do. The only advantage I can think of is allowing you to always left foot brake.

I don't understand why Porsche hasn't got on the bandwagon and come up with a semi-automatic gearbox.

As far as I know, torque converters suck. Maybe I'd have a different opinion if I was into drag racing or had no left leg.
