When I changed the clutch in my mom's 944 (to the spring-centered clutch) and also put in a new tranny, I was happy with my work and wanted to test drive it. It was the first time I had ever worked on a car.

My dad insisted HE wanted to do the test drive. So I got in the passenger seat. He drove to the first intersection, and did like 5 donuts. If he wasn't my father I would have socked him in the mouth. So instead I told my mom and she gave him the "proper punishment" .

Wow- so much for that 300-500 mile break in period!

You must've been born into your 30's. I know it's the Rennlist "groupthink" that anything which even remotely relates to 'drag racing', 'burnouts' or any other 'childish behavior' is horrible. I also know that many people on here (not nessisarially you, but your comment just fits the stereotype), feel they are too 'high and mighty' to engage in such childish behavior...

but, sometimes it's just fun to mess around. This can be done in an incredibly unsafe manner, but it can also be done in a relatively safe manner. Unless we're given reason to suspect otherwise, let's give the benefit of the doubt. Don't we all just purchase Porsche's to have fun? Despite our biased excuses, they aren't very 'practical' vehicles, so it must be. Perhaps his version of fun doesn't match yours, but does that make it wrong?

Remember, it's not just the NASCAR guys who do burnouts... Have you seen Kimi's finish at SPA last year? How about Badoer @ the 2006 Olympics? I'm sure I could think of plenty more examples given enough time.

Maybe a 750bhp difference between Kimi's celebration and tray drifting.

BTW watch out for Kubica

Scootin said what I guess I am trying to say.

I'm not into drag racin to much, especially with the 44', but its fun as hell to just mess around sometimes. I could care less how fast my ride is between stop lights. Its not about that.

I'm thinking the clutch drop was a bad idea, so I am leaning towards the "rolling" burnout. I have already told myself I wasn't going to try it, but damn, it looks like fun!!!

PS.... I used to think drifting was for ricers, then I saw Tommy Kendal doing it in a BMW on the speed channel. THAT looks like fun!!! I would rather do that than a burnout any day (just finding a spot big enough is hard)...Maybe in a round a'bout (jk ... no public roads.....well, in town anyway)

I like the idea of drifting, it's fun and it takes a lot of skill. I just get tired of how much ricey pop culture surrounds it. W/e just do what's fun and know the consequences before you do it!

944s aren't the choice car for automotive shenanigans. Some components are weak and fail, some components are hard to replace (by some components I mean the clutch). Some people like pickup trucks... nothing burns out easier. And you can use it to tow your 944 or haul engines/parts/etc.

haha, funny.

Shouldn't you use trays from Panda Express, though?

Y'know...since they're used to having rice ontop of them!

Rev to 6k, Drop Clutch....

Don't forget the broom to clean up the broken parts left over...

For drifting check out F2Iceland. In addition to posting pretty pictures, he has some fun drifting videos in his 944s. He has mentioned replacing a few things on occasion. :P

Phew,
I thought we were going to have to dust the moths off of the special olympics picture just for you.
