Default How to "Lubricate clutch release lever and secondary spring"

Hi there,

Quick question... On the list of routine maintenance items clarks-garage (fingers crossed for its safe return) had "Lubricate clutch release lever and secondary spring".

Are there any instructions of any kind anywhere as to what this involves?

Thanks,
Alex

Anyone? This is either a really easy and obvious one (hence no replies) or really obscure...

Do people generally do this as part of their annual maintenance?

Thanks,
Alex

Hi,

I used some white lithium grease on the pivot point for the clutch master cylinder and the return spring since it was easy to reach after finding that access panel. Since I was rebuilding the cylinder and everything was exposed I figure it couldn't hurt.

How the heck can one lube the release lever without pulling it? Which in itself is the biggest pain in the *** you can imagine.
I think that lubricating the lever is total BS. Ours has been driven for 20 years with the original clutch (230k km's) and the lever has never been lubed. That's such a low-tech hunk of iron it won't break on you...

Squirting in lube from the inspection hole doesn't really work, but you're welcome to try it first, it can't hurt.

Some say to use moly grease, copper grease, any grease, etc. I see the fork needle bearings as little wheel bearings so I use moly grease. Whenever you do a clutch job (and the fork is out in your hands anyway) you should clean and regrease the bearings, or better yet, buy NEW ones and grease those!

Lubing the pedal pivots is easy - stick your head in the footwell and put any type of grease you want. The mechanism is right there in plain view, so move the pedal, watch it act, and lube where ever there's a joint! I used white lithium spray to reach the hard-to-reach point where the clutch pedal connects to the master cylinder.

I also chanded the clutch less than 299 miles ago and i hear a spring noise fromm bell housing... I installed a brand new release arm, ball pin, throw bearing & pressure plate. I reused the throw bearing guide tube and clutch cylinder... I did not lubricate the throw bearing guide tube since there was no grease there before and the instructions i was following did not say anything... Now im regreting it lol. I bought some spray lithium grease to grease it through the clutch cylinder hole and see if thats it.. Other thsn that my guess is the clutch cylinder

Good point..those needle bearings come already pre-lubed, at least mine did..Time for moly grease on it and the guide tube while it's apart. Thanks.

Yeah those 2 needle bearings for the clutch fork shaft should be lubed if the bellhousing is off. You can also grease the contact "cup" between the slave and the fork with something thick. I think different people are talking about different things in this thread.
