short shifter ...damages syncros???
Hey...does a short shift kit, for example the one at Paragon, cause excessive wear and tear on the syncros?
I heard from someone who races 944 cars and he said his mechanic sees lots of guys with worn out syncros from the short shifter.
Any insight from the panel of experts?
Thanks.

I've also heard that but am not sure if true. I've had a short shifter kit in my car for many years and have not noticed any real changes. The 1 - 2 syncro has always been slow as far as I can remember.

ive grinded going into second gear twice so far. What ive learned is that when you usually would be in a big hurry to shift while going fast, you can now shift slowly and smoothly but it'll still change gears quicker. If you try to shift to fast it just simply doesnt have enough time and grinds at some point. I just shift like my friend told me to shift his 915 trans- Cha-Ching.

Won't hurt the synchros, a fast 1st to 2nd shift might grind if those synchros are worn, just don't try to speed shift it. I've had a modified short shifter for about 4 years, with no additional problems.

It makes sense.

Factory shifter on my car and it shifts slow from 1-2, no grinding but slow. I usually double clutch 2nd gear, not sure if it helps the synchros but it can't hurt.
I am gonning to fill the the trans with MT90, some say that helps.
I am sure the mechanic has seen many worn synchros, especially on race cars. I am not sure if the shifter is the culprit or the driver.

As a veteran mechanic of 35 years of modding cars...the only thing you are wearing out is items related to making the shift shorter because of the additional stress on those parts (additional leverage if any). but as far as inside the trans goes, it is all about the nut behind the steering wheel that will govern how long that will last.
