Default What relays are behind/over/under the glove box?

This morning while driving the na to work I heard some relay chatter from the glovebox area above the DME computer. Like a relay opening and closing, but very fast like the contacts were worn. This happened intermittantly with no other symptoms.

Anyone know what relays are up there?

To my knowledge (and using experience when I was last up there) there are none. The ABS computer is on that side tho.

the climate controller is on the top left side of the glove box and if it isnt spinning properly that might be you noise.

Thanks, that makes sense. Took the car out at lunchtime for a test drive and noticed that my blower fan would only work on position 4 (full on). Seems that clicking relay noise might be causing the problem.

I thought that the climate controller was built into the center dash. Are you saying that there is another component to this and if so, do you know if it contains a relay? I could be wrong but I am convinced this is a relay chattering.

V2 and I took out a dash from my 84 the other day and there were 2 (I think) relays right by the screw that holds the dash that is blocked by the glove box. Not sure about late cars though, or what they are for.

Mike, the clicking is the automatic climate control solenoids doing there thing. On my '87 it use to go on the fritz for a couple days and then stop. It was worse when it was cold out and the interior was trying to warm up. Drove me nuts. You may notice it goes away if you turn the temp **** to max in the opposite direction it is in now. Im not sure how to fix the problem with them.

For the fans only working on 4, take out the resistor block that is under the plastic firewall cowl. The contacts on these get corroded over time and will cause the fans to only work on the highest setting (no resistance through block). I soaked mine in white vinegar for an hour or two and hit the contacts with fine sandpaper. Before i cleaned it, on very hot days it would always cause problems.
