Needing a Oil sending unit, sturts springs and shocks as well & a power steering Bolt
87 944 n/a Needing a Oil sending unit and was wondering how hard of a job is it to replace. I have switched the wires back and forth making sure the did not get switched while changing the engine out. The needle stays pegged at the top when the engine is running. Does the oil need to be drained first "might be a dumb question" before changing. While working on the wires on Oil sending unit I noticed that one of my power steering mounting Bolts was missing only holding on by one bolt. While lying down it is one on top closest to the passenger side tire.anyone no how or where to find one and or the size of the bolt. Looking for some struts springs and shocks as well. Thanks guys! 87 944 n/a

sending unit is easy if you have one of these, otherwise you have limited angles where you can get a wrench on it.

that's a crowfoot wrench, available at Sears.
24mm required for the oil pressure sending unit.

Oil sending unit isn't too bad to change. Clearance for hands and wrench is a little tricky. Definitely easier if the PS unit is removed and with a bolt missing doesn't sound like that would be a problem.
I used a 24mm open wrench, but agree the crows foot would have made the job easier.
Don't need to drain the oil. Only a little will come out during the swap.
Crossed wires will cause the gauge to peg on 5 bars. Same goes for new gauge so check prior to tightening wiring connections. Gauge will peg with key to "on" position.
Good Luck!

Word of caution. Even using a 1/4" drive ratchet/socket - IT TAKES VERY LITTLE EFFORT to snap the terminals off of the sending unit. I did it to a brand new sender and was NOT happy. That is why most of them come with a new style spade connector that you can use if you want, otherwise just tighten untill the wires try and move with the nut, that's what the Germans call "Gutten-tight".
