How much does your car weigh?
#16
If the undercoating is worth 120#, I'm going to be ripping mine off tonight. Any tips on "rustproofing" after doing the removal? Is shaker can paint enough, or should I do any other prep work?

Currently I'm at 2620lbs with 1/4 tank gas, and driver, in my ITB 924 (equivalent in curb weight to an early 944, 2612lbs per the book - so they should scale the same or similar with similar mods) - post-race weight.
This is in the car that's fully-built (and legal) for ITB. It includes 40lbs of lead ballast (to keep it legal), a full 6-point cage (1.5"x.120 wall plus dash bar and roof cross-brace), fully gutted interior except dash and center console, 11lb fire system, 944/M471 brakes (standard 5-lug setup - was an option for the '24) with 15x6 spiderweb rims and Hoosier R6's, 3-qt Accusump, large oil cooler, Kirkey seat, and video setup. I'm in the process of pulling up to another 100# out of it, in preparation for more going faster!

I do know that I don't want to go thru life with bad elbows and joints from scraping all that crap off the car otherwise I'd do it too.
I'd love to see your spreadsheet.
Again, if anyone had corrections or hard proof of weights, please let us know. I hate to pass along erroneous information.
The hood was my biggest disappointment. The stock hood didn't weigh as much as GT racing said and the fiberglass hood weighted more.

Yeah, GT Racing, as much as I do like their product, is a bit optimistic in their product literature about stock parts weights.
I have a lexan hatch and fiberglass hood as well (not on the car, just in storage), and they're definitely not the weight savings advertised. I've weighed the stock parts, the math just doesn't work.

My 968 Firehawk Race car weighs 2830, no a/c, lexan windshield, no headlight motors, sound deadening removed, no cat, no radio, fixed sunroof - no motor, etc. started at 3086. Still runs in stock class so that's the least it could weigh - think I could get another 80-100 pounds out - but real tough after that.
