what's the difference between fender stretching and rolling?
is there a write up on how this is done and the cost to have it done?
i saw a cool 944 with what seems like "stretched" rear fenders is why i'm asking.

Fender rolling is where you take the lip that runs along the edge of the fender and roll it up so that the tire can't catch on it. I'd assume fender stretching would be taking the fender and physically beating the metal so that it has greater clearance outward. I don't know exactly tho.

I've heard of fender stretching or "pulling" on VW's, but never on a 944.
As far as a I know, when you stretch or pull a fender it requires filler and repaint afterwords to get it smooth again.
As for rolling, you can get that done at some performance shops.
I had my rear fenders rolled, and it cost me around $200.
944 fenders are really thick and very tough to roll, and it takes more time than other cars.
Or you can buy or rent a fender rolling tool, and do it yourself, if you're feeling brave.

I've heard it works with a baseball bat. But I'm cool with 16s and 17s, normal offset, so no rolling for me.
VW owners love to roll fenders and stretch tires to make things fit. Sometimes it's insane but sometimes it's neat too.

most 944's only would need to be rolled on the front side of the rear wheel wells about half way up from the bottom to the bottom. I rolled mine w/ a jack handle about a year ago and havent had rubbing since- even w/ 295's.

you'll prob. have to touch up alittle after rolling the fender since the paint being bent isnt very flexable. Ive done this several times successfully- just be careful and patient not to flex your quarter panel too much and cause body damage.

I don't know if my fenders are just harder than others but a jack handle wouldn't do anything to mine. I now have a wooden and an aluminum bat with deep groves in them(the fender lip didn't move at all with either of them). I ended up using a 4.5 lb sledge hammer to beat mine into submission. My neighbors must have though I was nuts taking a big hammer to the bodywork of a Porsche. I rolled from low in the front(7:30 or 4:30 if you look at the wheelwell as a clock) on each side to about 2:00 on the right(10:00 on the left). I had to clearance some space above the fender lip on the inside of the drivers side. and on the inside fender wall on the passenger side. 295's do fit but it took some work for me.
Bad shocks did make things worse for me.
