Aw that's sick. I've always wanted to see a launch first-hand but...living in AZ makes that a bit difficult.

Should've turned the car around, made it look like the flame was coming from some kind of tail-mounted rocket engine.

I missed the memo; didn't we just launch one a month or two ago? Sweet!

yep, there was a launch earlier in '08. as for the pic, it was a very cloudy night. the ceiling was MAYBE 3500 feet, so from the time you could see the sky start to glow as it lifted off until the time that it broke through the cloud cover was, at best, 15 seconds. you could see the shuttle itself for maybe 8 seconds. i remember when it launched last year on a perfect, cold night. that was intense.

fyi that was 2:28 in the morning, not 6:30 am like it looks. it's crazy how the shuttle literally lights up the entire sky. i'm going to go watch The Dish and Apollo 13 now......

Cool pic. The thread title suckered me in here. I admit.

P.S. I love your "location" there.

Go Endeavor! I wish they would launch shuttles out of Vandenberg too...
