Default SSQ #5: Where's the "real" battery drain?

This is the fifth of several "stupidly simple questions" I'm embarrassed to ask. Search function didn't return "stupidly simple" enough answers...my .pdf workshop manuals don't cover this either.

Where is the "real" battery drain?

I've read a lot on this and other forums about rusted and corroded battery trays. These trays allow water to leak into the passenger compartment and are bad news generally. Forum members have provided lots of repair tips, and I know I'll be using them when I fix my battery tray's issues.

That said, when I was brushing off the battery tray corrosion today, I realized something...my battery tray has been "repaired" before, and the only "drain" now visible is the rust hole that empties into the passenger footwell. Moreover, my windshield drains rainwater right into the battery tray, and that water goes onto the passenger floor, as well.

Once my camera battery charges, I'll upload some photos to help describe my concerns.

Thanks,

Nick

If you look at the firewall from the front of the car, the battery drain should be above the passenger frame rail. It should have a plastic plug looking thing there.

Dead smack in the middle of my attached picture.

Thanks for the pictures. So easy, a caveman could do it!

I'd never looked for the drain in the location from the first photo. Without standing in front of my car, I'm not sure which way is which in the second photo.

Still, the photos help a lot, and I'm going to find my battery drain.

The pic is from standing over the strut tower, looking rearward. Passenger side fender is on left. The drain hole is right where he yellow arrow is pointing. Hopefully when they 'repaired' your battery tray, they didn't cover that up.

yeah, my drain in the second pic is non existant. when i got my car it was "repaired" but still leaked. so i have reapired it twice now, and ive never seen that.
would that being covered up, would it cause water to leak into the passenger floor?

Turns out my drain is there, but a previous owner ran a battery cable through it, so that's why I missed it.

is it possible to repair an early car with a late style battery tray?
i bought one off of a previous rennlist member, thought i was getting an early model, and i finally got it but it is a late style.
