Default water pump Pulley

So i'm in the middle of reassembling the engine, and i noticed that the water pump pulley really doesn't want to turn. Is this normal? or am i in for some fun?

search didn't help me.

The one that was on the pump I just installed wasn't very easy to turn. Is it a new/rebuilt waterpump?

I honestly don't know (its the one that was in the car when i got it). I know its the new style water pump. I just couldn't turn it by hand and was wondering if that was normal.

You couldn't turn it at all? That seems a little strange. I could turn mine fairly easily, but it wouldn't spin freely. Rebuilt ones are only 80 bucks. I wouldn't risk it.

I was seriously considering a rebuilt one before this, so i might as well. I'll leave that one in for now so i can get the engine back in, then install that and tension the belts correctly after that.

Go with Zims (www.allzim.com) I've put their rebuilt units on two cars and have yet to have issues.

I've never seen one you couldn't turn by hand... New ones have a little drag but are still easily turned. I would definitely not install the pump...

I actually never took the pump off. I was just putting things back together and noticed it wouldn't turn. I'll leave everything as it is for now so i can get the engine back in the car this weekend and order a new pump. Once i have that I'll put it in, tension the belts correctly, then get everything together to start the car up again for the first time in 8 months.

Thanks for the input and the site recommendation.
