Default BFG Question X-post from tires forum

The Falkens on my S2 Cab wore thin after 6K street miles so I bought some BFG G-Force Sport tires in the factory sizes for my car. The Pressure is at 36/44. When I turned onto an onramp, the car understeered and started to slip. the tires were warm as i had already driven about 15 fast miles on them. Are the pressures too high? Do the tires really stink this bad? The Ziex didn't slip this bad unles i was really haulin'. What should the pressures be? Thank you in advance.

44 is VERY high for the rear. Even at the track 40psi is the highest I'd run. On the street 35ish is OK. I run a little lower than that, but don't realy even have a reason for it now that I think about it.....

The Gas door sticker has the 36/44 numbers on there. Somewhere I read that cabrios run different pressures.

Also that may be for the OE tires. If your tires have a Max inflation of 35 PSI then you should not run them higher than that rating. You will cause the tires to balloon in the centers making the car very unstable and wearing the center tread off of the tires faster.

That pressure seems very high. I think my 85.5 has numbers like 29/35.

Try taking 5 psi out of each and try again. I have BFG g-froce sports as well. I have used them for three (serious) track days and a couple of autocrosses (and layed out a RallyCross!) - they seem to be very capable tires for spirited use. I think you just need to get the pressures to a more suitable setting.

I'll have to try dropping 5 psi then. Right now I'm stuck inside sick w/ flu. but soon I'll hopefully feel well enough to try it out.

drop it to your max inflation pressure for street driving. If gives your tire a flatter contact point with the pavement and increases your stability on wet roads. Unless you have an Extra Load tire on there, it should be 35 PSI.

Do 34-35 front, 32-33 rear. You'll love it.

Been on BFG gforce sports for 3 years and absolutely love them, second set now.

Treadwear isnt great though

Just read sidewall for max PSI, Happens to be 44! That's weird that the max is same as recommended.

The tires are W rated according to their info.

Inflation pressure increase must not exceed the maximum pressure branded on the tire sidewall. When a customer requests a replacement tire with a lower speed rating than the original equipment tire, you must clearly communicate to him or her that the handling of the vehicle may be different, and that its maximum speed capability is limited to that of the lowest speed-rated tire on the vehicle. Exceeding the lawful speed limit is neither recommended nor endorsed.

For high-speed driving, additional inflation pressure and possibly reduced tire loading and/or upsizing is required. In the absence of specific recommendations by the vehicle manufacturer, use the following guidelines based on those in the European Tyre and Rim Technical Organization Standards Manual.

For speeds over 160km/h (100 mph), load and inflation must be adjusted according to the table below.

V-Speed Rated Sizes:
Maximum Speed (mph) 100 106 112 118 124 130 136 143 149
Inflation Increase (psi) 0 1 2 3 4 5 5 5 5
Load Capacity (% of max)100 100 100 100 100 100 97 94 91

W-Speed Rated Sizes:
Maximum Speed (mph) 118 124 130 136 143 149 155 161 168
Inflation Increase (psi) 0 1.5 3.0 4.5 6.0 7.5 7.5 7.5 7.5
Load Capacity (% of max)100 100 100 100 100 100 95 90 85

I too love my G-force sports and am on my second set, how any miles are on the tires, the take about 200 miles to break in. I would try 30/30 psi.
