Default Car loses power at 4k RPMs and other strange happenings

So the other day I'm leaving my house and heading on to the freeway when I notice my car is having some huge problems getting over 4,000 RPMs. It's not a permanent problem, it's somewhat intermittent. Later that day I got it up to 5,000 or so (I tend to drive the car hard, especially when trying to merge with traffic on a freeway on-ramp). The car had only been running for about 5-10 minutes, is this just because the engine is still relatively cool? I've run with a cold engine before and noticed decreased performance but nothing this noticeable.

Basically I was able to get the car up to 4,000 RPMs but it hesitated to go any higher even though I had the throttle open all the way. Oil pressure was somewhere around the 4 bar.

I've also noticed on a few occasions, I can be driving regularly, foot steady on the throttle and the car will appear to lose power for a little less than a second before regaining it's regular momentum (somewhat like driving 60mph, letting your foot of the pedal for a second that hitting the throttle again).

Any explanations?

My car acted very similarly when the cat was getting clogged. It would rev just fine untli it got to 4k, then it was very anemic until it fell completely on its face at 5k. It would also stumble while drving on the highway. Eventually the car cut out completely and I was stuck on the side of the road. It was an easy fix, just unbolt the rear section of the exhaust and jam my jack handle in to the cat until it broke the stuff loose.

When this problem occurs, does it persist? Or does it just come to say hello and just go away?

How's the temp?

Comes to say hello then goes away after a little while. Temp. is okay, could be the cat, as far as I know it's original.

I have a similar issue with my car not wanting to rev as well. My temperature gauge is reading high as well. I have verified that the car is not overheating though? Do I need a new thermostat is the temp gauge screwed up, Im not sure what the problem is.

^^^ What he said. I'd look at the connector for the refrence and speed sensors. That's exactly what my early car did before it totally crapped out. If the refence sensor signal isn't there or is intermitant, the DME can't adjust the spark timing.

My guess: Fuel filter or fuel pump. Do a volume test.

Is this in all gears/loads?

Aaaaah. Now I remember. Steve had problems with the speed and reference sensors on that car before he sold it to you. He just tied everything tight with some zip ties and it got better. Maybe that's not enough anymore? It may be time to buy a new sensor. But first just go check and see if the zip ties came off or something.

We cut off all the zip ties when we were doing the head, might be time to tie a few things up before I head to class tomorrow. I'll get a better look when I get back, a little dark out now.

Mass air flow. Pull the plug while running and see if the problem changes. I not, then this is your problem

Wanna inform me of the status of those interior parts?
