Ace Hardware cut me a key today for the new addition - they had a pretty close match for a blank. It was $2.13. I am going to try it out this evening and see if it works.

Josh, was it just a key blank they already had or did you bring in an actual Porsche key blank? Mine is an OEM Porsche blank which is steel so no one wants to cut it.

Did you pick up another 944?

Just noticed you are in SC (Spart?). Mike at the Simpsonville Ace Hardware will cut an OEM Porsche blank. He did my lighted key blank. He is one of the organizers for Eurofest ...

Key blank they aleady had. I am going to try it out tonight and if it works I have a Porsche blank I am going to take in there and see if they will cut it for my turbo.

I just needed this key for this car - I think you already say the thread on it....

The previous owner had used the rear lock in another car and only had one key so he needed a copy back. Too bad I don't have another random rear lock with key I could send him and then I could have all the locks on this car match.

Take 385S (towards Columbia).
Exit 31 (same exit for 185 to Atlanta, Laurens Rd) stay to the far right so that you exit to Laurens Rd.
Left on Laurens Rd towards Simpsonville.
Continue on Laurens Rd through one light, Ace Hardware is on the right about 1/2 mile after the light.
... if you go through a 2nd light you went too far.

Thanks! I will probably head over there tomorrow. Anyone I should ask for in particular? And did he know it was a steel key he was cutting?

I PMed you the guys full name that cut my key. I seem to recall having a discussion with him about some places not cutting that key. He did not seem to care. He was more interested in talking about my car and Eurofest. I have no clue if he is still works there.

The key was $35.00 and took 3 days to get it in. This is just the metal part. Then you have to buy either the ~$5 small vallet head to the more expensive lighted one.

Though I don't see any Richmond-ers here, I will point out that Pleasants Hardware on Broad, near VCU, will cut ANY key. They have cut two spares for my 944 and cut two original Datsun keys for my Z's with no mistakes. FWIW, all of you guys that think $40 is a lot for a Porsche key, try upwards of double that for an original, NOS Datsun round head key. IF you can find one...
