Default Installing bell housing

Doing my first clutch and flywheel job with the engine still in the car. According to Clarks you install pressure plate then slide the bell housing on. I don't see that this will actually work, there's not enough room. I've rotated the TT 180 degrees and have it as far back as possible. Am I just not good at puzzles, if you get the angle just right, will it fit?

I'm guessing I'll have to try to put the bellhousing, pressure plate, and clutch on "as a unit". If so, I'll have to wait for another set of hands to help with the lifting and bolting. If done this way, how do you deal with the clutch alignment tool, it won't fit through the bellhousing?

Did you remove the transmission cross brace?

I should add more. First you have my utmost sympathy. This is truly a job from hell. I assume you have a clutch alignment tool so you can get the disc centred into the pressure plate. Now I gather you have the throw out bearing put in. Once the PP is bolted to the flywheel you bring the bellhousing up, with the fork in rough position. Get the fork engaged into the through out and slide the retaining bolt in place. The start fitting the bellhousing bolts until handtight. Thats the rough sequence as I recall.

924S does not have a removable cross member brace, and the TT is up against the solid transmission brace. I need about 1cm to make it work, wondering if this is an issue with have a 968 engine in a 924S chassis.

No, still using the 924S bellhousing and TT.

Are you doing a 968? Then I don't know, but I expect the bellhousing assembly is the same.

968 bellhousing is completely different, you can change with clutch without removing everything. Unfortunately, I'm working on my frankencar, not my 968 DD.

I did! But I've always installed the clutch/bellhousing on the engine and then put the engine in, no problem at all.

I may have to loosen the four front cross member bolts and see if I can move the engine forward a hair.

It came out easily, I managed to shear all nine bolts of the flywheel at the track a few weeks ago. So, once I removed the bellhousing bolts, the whole assembly dropped straight down :-o

Clearly you are not holding your tongue the right way if you need to do that!

Got help coming tomorrow morning. Plan to unbolt the engine at the motor mounts and move forward on the cherry picker. Mount bellhousing and return motor.

In the meantime, I mounted the fire extinquisher, installed my window net, and will move some wiring around tonight. If I have time, I'll polish the new paint job and give her a waxing. Hope I have enough beer
