Default What does the top of an early Koni strut insert look like?

I just bought a set of M030 struts and springs from a 924S SE. They have the adjustable perches, the stiffer "two red dot" springs, and the top of the strut rod has a hole for a 7mm Allen wrench. According to the FSM, this is correct for the pre-'87 "non-externally adjustable" Koni insert. You're supposed to compress the strut completely, then turn the rod to adjust rebound.

Here's where I get confused. The old struts that are in my car have the same 7mm Allen head hole in the top of the strut rod. Did the regular struts have this same hole, or is it possible that my struts have been upgraded to Konis at some point?

Incidentally, there are a pair struts identical to the ones I bought on ebay right now, and the top of the strut looks different to what I have. It looks to be round with flat sections on two sides.

the 7 mm hex should be the ajustable off the car strut . Just remove , compress and turn , you will feel it lock in the adjuster . Two full turns of adjustment that you should feel . Full clockwise will be the stiffest rebound setting . sounds like you have two pair now .

Cool. That's what I thought, but it threw me for a loop when I saw the same top on my old struts. The way the previous owner of my car treated it, it's hard to believe he would spring for Konis.

Thanks.
