944 geneology: If the 924 was supposed to be a VW, and the 944 was...

The 924 was the car that Porsche designed for VW/Audi; the 944 was the car that Porsche designed for themselves.
And I'm glad they used VW/Audi parts for the 944's... it sure makes things cheap to replace! The 85.5+ 944's got Porsche-branded parts for a bunch of things, but I know racers who swap some of that out for cheap early 944 parts.

So many cars and car manufacturers are intertwined ... they always have been and always will be. Who gives a rat's ***? I love my 944 regardless of which company is responsible for the various parts and design elements.

Lol, a Lotus Elise uses a Toyota motor. Who cares?
What's worse? Getting beat by a "crappy Porsh" or be a "hopped up VW"? That's the real question. If people want to dog on it, then whatev (lol). Its up to them how they name their fate as far as I'm concerned. I talked to a Camaro guy (LT1) ragging on 944's a couple years ago. Its amazing how bad a 944 would smash on so many cars in its natural environment. Turbo or no.
Anyway. Back on subject.

some of you have prob seen this one: who owns who in the automotive industry and what kind of links they have between each other:

back to topic, 944 is more original than any other Porsche.
All others porsches are grandsons of the vw Bug.

Porsche was paid to do the design and development on the 924 project, VW had a change in
management and the project was scrapped, Porsche bought the rights for less than VW/Audi had invested. and the rest is history...
The VW was designed by Porsche before the second world war and the first Porsche was based on the VW. then , as always the Porsche was refined while in production
Porsches have alway been related to VW products... it's in the DNA....

The only difference between my 931 and your 944 is a couple of steel fenders and a 2.5 liter Porsche lump. Nice engine BTW but I'll still take my turbocharged Audi 2.0 liter. The reality is the 944 is simply an evolution of the 924 and many parts are interchangeable with the 924 Turbo and the basic design and lines are all derived from one form of the 924 or another... 924, 924 Turbo, 924 CGT. Thats not to say 944 owners shouldn't be proud of this fact. The 924 D-production and the 924 GTRs had a pretty darn good race history. A 6th overall finish at Lemans in a 2.0 liter GTR was pretty damn impressive.

Pretty sure 944 suspension was almost identical to the VW Bug as well -- I remember one of my mechanic buddies working on a 944 and a Bug side by side and giving me a call to mess with me about it...
If it works, it works, use it! If it breaks, it's cheap to replace!

rear trailing arms on the early cars come from Super bug, early front control arms came from
rabbit, trans is Audi, 924 engine was fron a VW type LT van, and also used in the Audi 100 from the 70's
lots of parts are shared, many have the audi logo on them.
